Both House leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus are throwing their support behind Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) in his race against Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) for minority whip.
"I support Mr. Clyburn. They both have been effective leaders, but Jim Clyburn is our whip, and he’s been a good whip,” the co-chairwoman of the caucus, Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.), told The Hill. Woolsey said the group’s co-chairman, Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), was also backing Clyburn, although the caucus as a whole was not taking a position in the intra-party battle.
“We’ll be working it [for Clyburn], but not for the progressive caucus,” Woolsey said. Grijalva was not immediately available for comment.
House majority leader Hoyer is challenging majority whip Clyburn for his post in the new Democratic minority after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Friday she would seek to remain as party leader. While House liberals would be expected to line up behind Clyburn, Hoyer — a favorite of centrists and Blue Dogs — has announced endorsements from several members of the caucus, including Reps. Jared Polis (Colo.) and Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.).
Woolsey panned a proposal floated by the Hoyer camp for each of the top four House Democratic leaders to move down a post in order of their rank in the 112th Congress. That would make Pelosi the minority leader, Hoyer the whip, Clyburn the caucus chairman, Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.) the vice chairman and would bump the current vice chairman, Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), out of the leadership. Both Larson and Becerra are running to keep their jobs.
“The bump-down scenario I don’t think is a solution,” Woolsey said. “My solution is not to force a runoff between John Larson and Xavier.”
She added that party leaders are trying to work out a deal that would satisfy the contenders and that she hoped it could be resolved in the coming days.
Woolsey said both the progressive caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus had to be represented “fully and with respect” in the Democratic leadership. “We’re going to play a key role in this next Congress, and that diversity has to be represented in the leadership,” she said.
I’m rooting for Jim Clyburn... I want them to show the country how Far Left they are! Let hope he becomes their whip!

It is now apparent that the election of 2010 is a watershed for two reasons: Both the traditional Democrat and Republican parties will soon be no more. The Democrat is trending Socialist in the European manner (and the election of Clyburn would certainly hurry that fact along), while the Republican is trending Conservative. It is no longer easy to be the pragmatist who “votes for the individual” and thus blurs party lines. The ideological chasm that separates the party is now very wide and growing wider by the day. In effect, the individual who states, “the Democrats and Republicans are all the same,” has lost touch with reality.

You make that statement too soon. We have to wait to see if the Republicans REALLY are conservative and represent those who put them into office. We have to remember that the party was (is) the party of compromise and of those who go along to get along.
Hopefully, the new office holders will stay the course and change the old ailing party but only time will tell.
Reality is that the old guard is still in power and RINOs rule the nest still today. Let’s see what happens and hope that the old guard is intelligent enough to see that their lifetime jobs are at risk.
I hope your statement becomes truth but I have serious doubts once these newbies are beaten into submission or corrupted by power.

I am all for Clyburn getting the Whip’s post. He is also the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. You know, the same CBC that Rep.-Elect Allen West is going to join. If they want to scream racism, let them go and the good warrior will hold a special place to smack them down.
I see Allen West being the poison pill of truth the halls of Congress has needed for a very long time and I will buy season tickets when they are available.
You are living in the past. I said the election was a watershed event. Already the revolutionaries within the two parties (the Tea Party qua Conservative, and the Progressive qua Socialist) are plotting strategy for 2012. There is no turning back. Huckabee, Romney, Rudy, Newt, etc., are ancient history. Likewise, an attempt to exchange Hillary for Obama would be a failed effort by the handful of Kennedy Democrats still around to turn back the clock and it would split the party. It is quite possible that Palin too has had her day in the sun. Like I said. A watershed event.
Clyburn is already Democrat Whip.
Normally, under such a scenario, the former Speaker steps down completely and retires either immediately, or soon after.
Everyone else would keep their position (assuming there are no other resignations.)
But Pelosi is shameless and impervious to public humiliation.
So she will gladly swallow the demotion, and Nanzi gets what Nanzi wants from the idiotic and pliable House Democrats.
So with Nanzi taking Steny’s job, and everyone else keeping theirs, Hoyer is the odd man out. Which is just how Nanzi and the progressives want it.
Hoyer is Pelosi’s long running rival, and she has figured out a way to dispatch him once and for all.
Hoyer was only Majority leader to keep the Blue Dogs in line and on the reservation and with a near extinct Blue Dog caucus, his services are no longer needed, and he has no base in the Democrat caucus left to support him.
The progressives in far Left districts are all that are left, and the Leftist leaders like Pelosi refuse to take responsibility for the historic defeat. Instead, they have blamed the Blue Dogs. And since only progressives are left, they will choose to believe the excuse that leaves progressives blameless. And so they will punish Hoyer, not Pelosi. The only question that remains is if Hoyer, seeing his leadership career over, retires. I suspect so.
This is absolutely delicious. And to sweeten it even more, all the defeated Blue Dogs have written a letter to the Democrat caucus imploring them to dump Pelosi. The Lame Duck session is likely to be consumed by Democrat infighting and recriminations. The Blue Dogs are going to spend the session trying to sabotage Pelosi.
No one knows or cares who Clyburn is.
He’s already Democrat Whip.

Annointing the racist Clyburn as party whip is perfect. He’ll start a race war in the rat party. The entire country will benefit as everyone will see the fascist party ripped apart.
