NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Connecticut man was condemned to death Monday for a night of terror inside a suburban home in which a woman was strangled and her two daughters tied to their beds, doused in gasoline and left to die in a fire.
Jurors in New Haven Superior Court voted unanimously to send Steven Hayes to death row after deliberating over the span of four days. Judge Jon Blue will impose the sentence on Dec. 2.
"You have been exposed to images of depravity and horror that no human being should have to see," Blue said in thanking the jurors for their service.
Dr. William Petit, the husband and father of the victims, said the verdict was not about revenge.
"Vengeance belongs to the Lord," Petit said. "This is about justice. We need to have some rules in a civilized society."

The guy should be executed within 6 months. Justice is not served by waiting 10-12 years.
These killers will never be put to death. They’ll live the rest of their lives in nice little death-row isolation cells.
It would have been better if they’d received 10 years and been put into gen-pop - the guys there know how to take care of child killers.

Too bad they can’t bring back drawing and quartering. Both of these animals need to be drawn at least six times each before being quartered.

10-12 years? Are you kidding, in CT? More like 45 years when he dies of old age after having had 10 appeals trials costing the taxpayers $20 million and another $5 million or so to clothe, feed, educate and provide healthcare worthy of a congressman.
With the evidence they have on this guy, all appeals should be denied. Appeals are just a way for a lawyer to make more money. Especially if they are a court appointed attorney. Court appointed attorneys can make a fortune every time they delay and file more papers on behalf of the client. Many court appointed attorneys can make more money than a regular attorney. This needs to be stopped across the country.
Guys gonna get three squares, a warm bed, and free medical for the next 20 years.
The people of Connecticut don’t have the stones to deal with it, and even if they did, some fame-seeking attorney or activist judge would stand in the way.

After their conviction so as not to taint the jury, the crime scene photos be released to the public. Perhaps if people actually saw what these monsters did they would be sickened enough to demand their prompt execution. But sadly it may well be decades before they pay for their crime.
The defense lawyer for the scum stated outside the courtroom that the death penalty was “arbitrary and capricious”. Now I understand the need for a defense attorney in a capital murder case, but if this lawyer really believes his own crap, he deserves the needle too.
A common sensible person would reach this decision is less that 30 seconds.

The rest had to threaten her with public exposure if she didn’t live up to her earlier sworn statements.
Liberals are nothing if not stupid. It took four days to convince her they were serious.
