Why gridlock in D.C. will be good for America ( Gary Hubbell: The Redneck Tree-hugger )
Aspen Times Weekly ^ | Gary Hubbell

Posted on 11/07/2010 12:21:17 PM PST by george76

Barack Obama was feeling pretty cocky in the weeks before this November's mid-term elections. He made sure to appear before his home base, making the most of every chance to take a whack at Republicans like a prom king at a pep rally.

Personally, I found it intolerable, because it all seemed so phony. Over the past two years, he's never missed a chance to tell the rest of the country that they'd better like his agenda because it was going to be enacted no matter what. “The Republicans are going to have to ride in the back of the bus,” he crowed. (Let's just pause and think for a moment what hell would break loose if a white Republican candidate ever uttered that statement about Democrats.)

This week he's singing a much more somber and subdued song....

How does it feel to be told “NO”, Mr. President? Has that ever happened to you before? For the poster child of entitlement programs and racial set-asides, a boy who was raised only to age 12 by a single mother, it might just be the first time someone ever told Barack Obama, “NO.”

That's not the same as taking a magic carpet ride through Columbia and Harvard with no visible means of support, is it? It's not the same as voting “present” in an unremarkable state legislative and two-year Senate career, is it? That's not the same as showing up in Denver to accept the Democratic nomination, swept in by a fervor of anti-Bush sentiment and airy rhetoric, hailed by throngs of 20-somethings who couldn't pass an 8th-grade civics class. Is it?

Heh, heh. The “gridlock is good” theme is starting to take hold.

Gary Hubbell’s rant won't change any Obamabot’s mind, but that's OK because I really enjoyed reading it!

Imagine the 112th Congress convening and when it becomes apparent that the Dems will cooperate on nothing, they call for an adjournment and simply go home to their home district.

Open shop then lock the doors and go home for further notice. Shut DC Down.

Tell the Dems when they want to talk, call me.

Or better yet, change the rules to allow the Congress to telecommute the rest of the year from their district. Away from the lobbyists and under the thumb of their constituents.

If Congress never passes another law it will be just fine with me.

The House could now tell bammie to ride the back of the bus but, then, that would be considered racist.

There are some necessary governmental functions and total gridlock would be unfortunate. Some legislation is needed, for example selective defense appropriations, anti-terrorism appropriations, opening up oil drilling lands and waters and speeding up nuclear power generation.

Here is a suggested procedure for killing ObamaCare, EPA regulations on carbon emissions and much of the other stuff dependent on future appropriations -- without producing gridlock -- in a way the Senate would find very difficult to block and President Obama would find very difficult to veto.

Should anyone take the time to read the article, please also see Comment #21. It links an article which sums up the possibilities, albeit from the standpoint of how horrible it would be not to fund ObamaCare. Reading it induced uncontrollable fits of giggling and made me wonder whether that might be covered under ObamaCare even though it is, sadly, a pre-existing condition.

That worked great in 1995, didn't it? Well, for the Democrats, I mean.

1995.

Yes, but there is a huge portion of what happens in DC that is worse than worthless. Totally counterproductive and expensive.

That part MUST be destroyed. The only way out of this mess is to cut unnessary Federal Spending, unnessary regulation and stop the FED messing with the knobs.

We CANNOT SPEND OUR WAY TO PROSPERITY.....

OK! I may have exaggerated a bit. I agree completely with your list. I'm just real frustrated with Washington.

Thanks for the link to your article. Very informative.

May I ask if you like living in Panama & would you recommend it as a place to retire? How's the crime?

Problem is the Fed don’t need to pass laws to destroy this Country, just look at QE2.

So you think putting Democrats in will cut spending?

You consider 1996 a success?

Hmmm...

“Past performance does not predict future results”

Never said it would be simple, but none the less it MUST be done.

Nothing unusual about being a “redneck tree hugger.” That’s why they prefer to live in the country rather than the city.
