Vanity: D.C. Schools: Now Serving Dinner

Posted on 11/07/2010 11:57:51 AM PST by TigerClaws

A year ago, President Obama said that, for many of the nation's public school students, their school lunch is "their most nutritious meal—sometimes their only meal—of the day." Now, 10,000 kids in the nation's capital are getting an early dinner, in addition to their lunch and breakfast, at school.

"The beauty of this program" gushed a D.C. reporter, "is that it's free, the D.C. school district won't have to pay a dime because it's federal money."

Do you have a link for this? I want to laugh at it in the original.

Thanks! Sorry if you get this twice.

I remember reading as a child in Natl Geographic how Soviets basically sent their children to the government to be raised. They saw them on weekends.

When I read about the Chinese Olympic children, and how they basically see their kids maybe once a year, my blood boils.

I worked on a project to install new computers into some urban schools two summers ago. The “school lunch” program was in full swing every day. And every day a line of moms driving SUV’s and mini-vans dropped off the “poor little urchins” for their free lunch and picked them up a few hours later.
