I do believe they have a system that you describe in our town, or something very similar. There is the voting machine, then there is a way to print the ballot in case they need a copy for recount purposes!
They used a punch-card system for years and years. However, our little town didn’t have a lot of problems with that. In the last few years, the town grew quite a lot. So, I guess they decided they needed something new; especially with the problems that have come along on the national level!
I'd guess the Hairy Reed forces had a good idea on the Governor's race and shot for that ~ and missed. For some reason they deleted entirely too many Angle votes ~ yeah, that goes on ~ votes are eliminated by whatever means necessary.
The whole Nevada race has the earmarks of exceedingly widespread cheating.
If John Ransom had a better candidate, then why the hell did he not get up off his ass and get him or her through the primary???

It was developed back in the days when Southerners thought it useful to make sure that the Democrat candidate was a white man ~ women, blacks and Republicans were easily kept out of the primary/runoff system.
And if you read my other posts on this thread, I am calling for folks to get out and support conservatives and give them the boots on the ground to win in tough races.
We have to be better prepared if we want to win it all in 2012.

Uh, I do support true conservatives - and I actively supported one this campaign - to the point where I, as a volunteer, was recognized at campaign functions as a staff member.

The Dems were able to motivate against Toomey because of his conservatism - so right there is an object lesson - if we are going to push for conservative candidates in purple states, we must get out and volunteer to help in the GOTV efforts
Nowhere on this thread did I say we should nominate RINOs - to the contrary, I have asked conservatives that if they are going to push for conservative candidates, they need to get out and volunteer to help them out in GOTV efforts - and likewise the candidates themselves have to master the details of running an effective campaign.
Where on this thread did I say the GOP should have nominated someone other than Angle? I didn't. But just because I agree with a candidate's viewpoints, it doesn't mean I won't note when they do not run a good campaign.

It is a mistake to blame the loss on fraud when there clearly were operational problems with the Angle campaign. Just as the GOTV effort for Toomey coasted at the end when the Dems were going full speed, and it almost cost them - an Adcock staffer went to the SE PA GOP center Sunday and the place was almost empty - within the critical 72 hour window before the election.
If we want to win next time, we need to learn from mistakes, not pretend they didn't happen.

Sharron Angle lost because she was not going to be the CANDYMAN. Neither was she going to support the worthless earmarks on multi-million dollar projects.
In Nevada, Republican’s and Dim’s alike companies make tons of money from these federal taxpayer dollar pork barrel projects.
Reid is the candyman to all, party does not matter.
Just look at the monorail joke in Vegas that goes to about 4 casinos. Nevadans did not pay for this. YOU ALL paid for it, Reid managed to get millions of federal dollars for it. Well guess what, the monorail system is now bankrupt.
Now the next federally funded CASH COW headed for NV is the stupid train from Las Vegas to California. Was Sharron Angle going to support this abomination? Hell no...and the casinos and Sig Rogich (owns lots of land along the route) knew she would not cooperate ergo must be destroyed.
So no supporty federal porkbarrel spending, no winny the US Senate seaty....
Angle at the least needed 5 points plus to hold off the fraud machine, even then Sig would have managed to burn Angle by about 500 votes...They always find the votes...
Angle’s primary for congress in 2008 was also boosted, she lost by about 300 votes, to Dean Heller, who is now the Republican congressman(BTW - plays ball with Sig, Casinos and Reid). Heller has been a good vote for our side.
Heller, Heck and Ensign will vote for the pork. Bet on it.
Time to put a permanent end to EARMARKS once and for all.
And second, GOTV just doesn't happen organically. It takes management and organization and understanding of the process. Unfortunately, some campaigns don't assign it the appropriate priority and it suffers as a results.
Mistakes are expensive. We need to learn from them. In this case the mistake was not in message but in management.
I was making GOTV calls and knocking on doors for Toomey and Corbett in June. That is how early that effort started up. But Toomey coasted at the end and almost got ambushed by the Dem GOTV effort in the Philly area. Like I said, I heard from someone that the GOTV call center was almost deserted the Sunday before the election - folks thought Toomey had it in the bag and weren't showing up to call.
We cannot coast in 2012. If we want conservatives to succeed, we have to back them with more than money, they need our time as well.
I don't think we are in that much disagreement here.
