post more on this when I have it, but two sources who are familiar with the recanvassing of the voting machines in NY-1 tell me that GOPer Randy Altschuler, who'd been down several thousand votes to Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop is now up between 300 and 400 with the recanvass completed.
There's over 9,000 absentee ballots to be counted starting next week, but the Republican had been down by 3,400.

For once, the recount is favoring the GOP.
Can’t be true, a republican has never gained votes in a recount. Especially in NY!
The election judges must have got their counting instructions from Democrat HQ reversed.
No worries. The RATS will find a sack of un-opened ballots that mysteriously favor the RAT.
I live in NY1 and voted for Randy. This is rather astounding news.
If this holds and Buerkle lead also holds, that will be 7 House seats gained in NY!
That’s amazing considering in the Governor’s race and Senate races, the GOP lost by 20-30 points!
With Buerkle and Altschuler, it could have been a staggering 8 seat Republican gain in NYS if not for NY-23 and Hoffman's blunder.
New York ping
NY has taken some crap from the rest of the country due to our miserable senators and governor and attorney general, but we flipped more U.S. House seats than any other state. It is also possible that the state senate will revert to Republican control, thereby splitting legislative control.
Just think of what we could do if the NY GOP had even a minimum level of competence.
Just think of what we could do if the NY GOP leadership weren’t Democrat moles.
“For once, the recount is favoring the GOP.”
Good point. This is great news.
New York may be blue, but it’s no California.
If the millions spent on Fiorina were spent on DioGuardi instead, he would be our US Senator.
Nice! +7 from NY.
Too bad about NY-23 being lost cause Hoffman was still on the ballot as the Conservative.
A couple other fairly close loses. Hinchey won by around 8 K or 4 points. McCarthy won by 8 points.
We better get the State Senate or we may have trouble keeping these under a new rat gerrymander.
Going with who’s ahead in the uncalled races this would make it 244 R. Plus I think there’s still hope for Harmer in CA-11 with the absentees, 245 is a nice round number.
To have such a large gain and only 2 gains tops in CA.
Hmmm...Waiting for the mysterious “bag” to drop...
According to the East Hampton star, the absentees break down as follows:
Republican 3,834
Democrat 3,484
Independence Party 283 (they endorsed the Dem)
Conservative 237
I think many of the Independent party voters supported Atschuler. Their platform is very focused on smaller government.
Unlikely that Bishop could gain 392 among these votes.
A Freeper in East Hampton? Aren’t there rules against that?
Ping
“To have such a large gain (in NY) and only 2 gains tops in CA.”
I have bad news, the absentees in California are going heavily Dem.
Costa and McNerney are heading for victories.
The GOP gain in California will be a big fat ZERO.
“If this holds and Buerkle lead also holds, that will be 7 House seats gained in NY!”
Wow, hope for the future!
