We just throw the old CFLs out in the pig sty...pigs’ll eat anything.
I won’t have the mercury filled kind in my house. What do you do if one of them is broken - now you have a hazardous waste situation right in your home. I have grandkids, dogs and cats I don’t want poisened.
Heaven help us - with all our know how surely we can find a better way.
Yet another example of how the law of unintended consequences will bite you in the ass every time.
They burn brighter, longer, and use less energy.

The first two claims are manifest lies. I assume the third claim is as well.
The CFLs are off shoring American jobs to China. Thanks to the Democrats
No they are not brighter. After dad died we had to replace all of his CFL’s because it was like living in a cave with candle light. We refuse to use them in our own home - period.
First of all, for the love of God, don’t EVER break one.
Even more so, don’t break and casually clean up -4- of them.
Having 10 times the “normal levels” of mercury in your body is NOT FUN.
I got lucky...my levels were “low enough” not to require medical detoxification but using natural methods to flush it out feels worse than just leaving it in.
If it hit me this hard with “low level poisoning” as an adult, imagine what a broken bulb is gonna do to a little kid.
Ban the damn things.
The CFL’s don’t last as long as claimed. When used in certain kinds of fixtures or outside, they last much less than we were led to believe. Also, when they burn out, there is sometimes a spark and a pop, possibly leading to a fire.
The congress didn’t care about all that. All they cared about was controlling one more product.
I believe these garbage “Liberal” light bulbs with their curly design were designed with Liberals in mind. Liberals can plug or screw them where the sun don’t shine. What do you think? Made by Liberals for Liberals!
I like incandescents. Just enough heat to help my yogurt set.
A few questions: why the sudden urgency about the dangers of mercury in CFL’s? For as long as I can remember, flourescent tubes have been used by the billions in shops and businesses across the country. Don’t Flourescent tubes have mercury in them? What happens to them after they burn out? Don’t they go into landfills? Where’s the concern over that?
Also, when they rate the cost savings of CFL’s, are they rating just the CFL lamp itself, or are they including the juice that the electronics in the bulb’s base require to get the bulb to work?
Lets ban them and go back to whale oil lamps and candles.
What is really sick is that they have a tax-payer funded program for greenies to go door to door and hand them out, and if you arent home they just stick them on your doorknob. I got one and then the guy came back and I told him off for putting hazardous materials on my doorknob. We got into a heavy debate. He claimed that I had to drive the used up bulbs to the recycle center and I told him he is nuts and that I am not driving them anywhere.
To simply have everyone switch over to these CFLs is another kneejerk reaction by greenies without weighing out the consequences of their actions. In ten to twenty years we will be hearing about all of the dangers to the earth caused by having trillions of these things improperly disposed of.
Live in a city where the leadership kowtows to environazis? Go to your next council meeting and DEMAND that all city-run holiday lighting this winter be with CFL bulbs, not incandescent bulbs and watch these hypocrites run for cover.
DEMAND CFL holiday lights or NO holiday lights! And watch them squirm. And then tell them if they won’t even enforce this for their own civic displays, how DARE they demand it of us in our homes.
I hoard the good ones as well. I also complain EVERY TIME I am in a hotel that uses them. “Too dark, Cant see” “Bad lights, never lit up” Yes, every single time I make a complaint. They are also fun to unscrew just enough to make people think they dont work when you hit the switch. lol
I can see the libs pushing next for it to be a FELONY to throw them out in the trash, and require mandatory recycling with tracking from purchase to disposal. Thats about all they do, make life miserable.
I don't know about using less energy, but my experience is that they do not burn brighter and burn out at a much higher rate than the incandescent ones. Plus when they break they expose anyone in the area to a hazardous material - perhaps we'll soon have a regulation to call a hazmat team to clean up broken “green” bulbs.
We have returned 100% to the old fashioned bulbs.

Dump them in algore’s yard.
