People such as me are often accused of wanting to return to the 19th century. But, if the New York Times is right about a new trend, some on the Left want to go back to the Middle Ages. What is that trend? Avoiding soap, deodorant, and even bathing regularly. Today, though, its often for environmental reasons.
It seems that top-notch Western hygiene has now joined SUVs, Wal-Mart, tobacco (not the wacky kind its in fashion), guns, McDonalds, and white males in the Museum of Politically Incorrect Persons, Places, and Things.
For example, Guardian writer Kira Cochrane tells us about 51-year-old environmentalist Donnachadh McCarthy, who boasts that hes gotten his water consumption down to about 20 litres a day, that hes as clean as everyone else, and that hes trying to reduce his carbon footprint.
If I were Donnachadh, Id be more concerned about my stink footprint.
McCarthy seems to bemoan what Cochrane calls the fetishizing of extreme cleanliness and says that when he was a lad the normal thing was to bathe once a week. I dont know, perhaps he spent his youth as part of a head-hunting tribe in Papua New Guinea, but during my stateside childhood in the 1970s, a daily shower was expected. I mean, even in 1950s programs such as Leave it to Beaver, the little boy who tried to avoid his nightly bath was often the stuff of comedy fare.

Such wackos!
No wonder so many of them are jobless.
So when Katie Couric talked about the great unwashed, she was actually talking about Liberals?
Huh....Makes sense now.
Could there be more obvious signs of decadence? Or that Western Civilization is headed back to the Middle Ages?
Bad hygiene is retro-60s. All of their ideas are recycled failures from past decades.
I hope this UK nonsense stays there...though I do recall those in college who wouldn't wash some of their clothes because it would ruin them... "they got natural oils, man..."
And I do know someone who stopped his hair loss by reducing his shampooing to once a week.
So Harry Reid was really smelling his constituents then. Instead of complaining he should have said something like, “Ah, I love the smell of BO in the morning, it’s the smell of my voters, it’s the smell of victory!”
Reminds me of the boast of Isabella of Spain that she supposedly had only two baths in her life - baptism, and on her wedding day.
On the more serious side, supposedly we left bad hygiene behind a hundred years ago. Just more ammo in that modern liberalism is leading us backwards in so many ways.
A great way to save water is for Liberal women to shave their heads. This cuts shower time down to a few minutes and eliminates all that shampoo from being drained into the water supply.
That is sooooo French..............
Big spending he wanted to sell
He thought it best just to yell
But returns came that night
voters went to the right
And now he thinks that he’ll smell
All we are sayyyyinnng is give soap a chance...
Could be why bedbugs are taking over several cities.
it took them a while, but them dirty hippies of the 60’s now have a cause they can really get into.
the good news is that leaves more water to wash my car with...
That is why lib women all have short hair.............
From article,
“Have you ever been around a restaurant worker who recently arrived from a nation (Im thinking of one culture in particular, which shall remain nameless) in which deodorant isnt high on the shopping list?”
Hmm. Can anyone guess the country? There are quite a few candidates.
This is actually revisiting an old trend from the hippies in the ‘60s. Many hippies stunk to high heaven. They prided themselves on being unclean, unshaven, rejecting materialism, torn jeans, etc.
But now today’s mindless liberals are doing it to save the planet. Ok, got it. (sarcasm)
We have already been through this with the stinky hippies of the 60’s.....epic fail. Looks like we are in for another round of stinky people, this time to “save the world.” LOL!
Leftists not washing is a new trend?
So I guess not shampooing kept the glue from washing off?
m’kay, that might work.
ROTFL!
