As Obama Tours, Our Border Woes Worsen
IBD Editorials ^ | November 4, 2010 | Staff

Border: As President Obama tours India in the style of an Ottoman sultan, the gates of his own nation remain under siege. Five more Americans were killed in Mexico this week, with little interest from Washington.

How is it the White House can scare up $200 million a day for a presidential visit to India — for a pasha-like caravan of 3,000 people, 34 battleships, hundreds of helicopters and loaded hotels for 10 days of peacock diplomacy — but deliver few reinforcements to the battle zone our own border has become?

That's the sad reality as one considers the extravagant costs of President Obama's 10-day trip to India and other Asian countries while the resources committed to securing our border and helping our desperately struggling neighbor, Mexico, go wanting.

Wednesday, Mexican cartels murdered another American, Eder Diaz, 23, a University of Texas-El Paso student visiting his family in Juarez. His friend Manuel Acosta, 25, whose citizenship is not known yet, was also killed. Diaz's death made him the fifth American killed in Mexico this week. The State Department says 92 Americans were killed in Mexico from June 2009 to June 2010.

Diaz won't be the last, because in reality, families and businesses are intimately entwined across our southern Border. But nearly 100 dead Americans is unacceptable. Were such numbers to occur in Iraq, the anti-war left would protest. The White House offers only silence. There won't be a $2 billion presidential visit to the frontier where the killings are happening anytime soon.

States should use already allocated stimulus money to hire legal citizens to help patrol the border..don’t call the border guards, call them Mexico watchers, so there is no intrusion on obammas so called sovereignty

and no outrage from the GOP or the boased media over this trip and what he is taking, who he is taking, how many he is taking and the cost of this trip.

makes me puke that this guy goes on these vacations while taking his freeloading friends and family and many of us can’t even go out for a night due to us having to pay more and pay for his trips

Hey Michelle will you be stuffing your fat arse and face over there as usual too?

Call me paranoid.....but I think something’s on the burner. Given this man’s arrogance and narcissistic demeanor.....his apathy toward the spanking he just got...... I am left with a very uneasy feeling. :(

Nothing will be done till after he’s left office and a few dozen beheadings occur in D.C.

I think something is on a burner too. A friend of mine who owns a jewelry store one day mentioned that India is rich in gold..and if the people of India put their mind to it, and developed the gold assets they have, they could have some control of the price of gold..
Anyone else heard anything to this effect?

I haven't heard anything.....but that's food for thought. All I know is we've been a outsourcing a tremendous amount of jobs to India in the past 20yrs.....which is the LAST thing we need.

I hear "buy American" all the time....but there is precious little manufactured here anymore. Our gov't has systematically and deliberately dismantled our status as the industrial leader of the world.... by hamstringing our business with heavy taxes and burdensome regulations which make it impossible to compete with 3rd world sweat shops.

Take that and the unions demanding top $$ for even menial labor jobs... minimum wage requirements strapped to the rest....etc....there's no way to "buy American" for most everything we need. I could go on....but that's my rant for the day.

The Texas legislature is going to take on this issue when they convene in January. We’re tired of waiting for Washington to enforce the laws.

In Obama’s view the USA is one gigantic Imperialist nation and we owe it to the poor little Mexicans to let them share in our wealth. He truly believes this and that is why he does nothing to strengthen the borders.

Interesting Glenn Beck program today. We’re engaged in sending America’s wealth overseats to build up the Third World. This means they demand more food and material goods and our standard of living plummets as prices rise...inflation. So the price of coffee, chocolate, sugar, gas, corn, wheat, cereal, you name it, just went up and up and up. Obama thinks this is fair because, as you pointed out, the US ia an imperialistic nation built on the backs of the poor, helpless, innocents of the Third World. So when we’re choosing between heat or food this November it might be wise to take time to plan a vegetable garden for next spring. And stop by Agway and pick up a book on canning, raising chickens, etc..

The billion dollars Obama is spending to go to India would go a long way on the border.
