Sen. Patty Murray has won a fourth term, riding a wave of strong Democratic support in King County to defeat Republican challenger Dino Rossi.
As of Thursday evening, Murray was leading Rossi by more than 45,000 votes, taking 51 percent to Rossi's 49 percent. That's up from a 14,000-vote lead on Election Day.
According to a Seattle Times analysis, Rossi would need to get about 54 percent of the estimated 591,000 uncounted ballots statewide to overcome Murray's lead.
But nearly 264,000 of those ballots are in King County. Murray's already commanding lead there has only expanded since Election Day. She took 68 percent of the 69,000 King County ballots counted Thursday.
To overcome King County's heavy support for Murray, Rossi would have to take about two-thirds of the remaining ballots in the rest of the state. So far he's received 53.2 percent of those non-King County votes.
That makes Rossi's task virtually impossible, even though hundreds of thousands of ballots remain to be counted statewide.

If Rossi had cared about eliminating corruption in the state of Washington, he would have won in 2004.
He had all the evidence he needed. I know because I gave him proof beyond a reasonable doubt in both 2004 and 2008.
Chris Vance also had it but was unwilling to expose it because it would also have implicated some of his GOP friends. Same with the BIAW and the Evergreen Freedom Foundation.
All these people claim to want to eliminate corruption, but are unwilling to do it if their friends would also be exposed. At that rate, it will take someone outside the system to do it. Problem is, the media won’t even write about.
If you doubt that, just Google Superior Court Judge Gary Little in King County. Lots of people knew he was physically and sexually abusing juvenile boys caught up in the leal system and did nothing to stop him for many years.
With the majority coming from CORRUPT King County. Every election is the same in Washington. Outlying counties report early (efficiently), and King County holds back until the number of votes required to steal the election is made clear.
One day, what is done in the darkness will be revealed by the light. I just hope it is in my lifetime. I'm old enough to know that deceit always catches up with itself -- call it unintended consequences. That day is coming!
The election was ALMOST stolen from Toomey however. The vote fraud in Filthadelphia has got to be stopped. Only the complete rejection of the RATS in Western PA stopped another theft.
Hold your fire and think about it for a second! I can agree that Rossi didn’t run a passionate enough campaign but if he had gone after Murray as she deserved he would have immediately been slammed by her campaign and the local media (but I repeat myself) as an aggressive jerk. All the local feminists would who spend their lives insisting that they can do ANYTHING that men can do would have immediately fallen to the ground in a puddle of tears screaming, “He was mean to the girl!”
He was in a no-win situation and there wasn’t anyone else stepping up to take her on - we have a sad lack of VIABLE conservative candidates in Washington state because they all know that King County will pull out all the stops to elect the liberal....which is why we’re only one step behind California on the road to bankruptcy.
Unless you are willing to throw your hat into the ring you have no right to call Rossi names. He is a decent, caring man who sees the path our state and country are taking and he did his best to make his case to the voters. Sadly, too many of them don’t like the whole reality, personal responsibility thing and they wanted Patty cause “she brings home the bacon”!
I live in Oregon, sorry to say. After 22 months of Tea Parties, events, rallies, protests, blogging, and endless campaigning, I have come to the conclusion that not one libtard vote was changed by anything the grassroots did here in Oregon. Well, a pox on all the libtards here in Oregon—they deserve the govt they voted for. I will refocus all my energies outside of Oregon from now on. The state is hopeless and the only thing that will change anything is when the state dies a very painful death, soon to happen under our new Gov Kitzhaber.
Undoubtedly he will. When will you be showing us how it should be done?
If people take a look at the county by county voting they will see that 1 county controls this state. I don’t know of another state that is so controlled. Millions? of acres are controlled by people in downtown apartments in Seattle. I am sick of it.
So thankful for McMorris Rodgers.
When will we see you showing us how it should be done?
“This is the way the founders designed it.”
Actually, the founding fathers never intended for the people to vote for, or to choose, senators. The senators were supposed to be appointed by the state legislatures, and the purpose of each senator was to represent the interests of his state in Washington, D.C. This changed around 1914 when the direct election of senators began.

Rossi was unwilling to play hardball when he needed to. He has no one to blame but himself.
Illinois can depend upon Chicago (though it wasn't quite enough in this Senate race).
For Pennsylvania, it is Philadelphia.
For Michigan, Detroit is the culprit.
Denver was crucial in delivering Colorado to the Democrat, Michael Bennet, this time.
And, of course, it is Seattle (more broadly, King County) that makes Washington state a blue state...
Ugh. Bitch.
Well, guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.
For the past few days I have been talking Rossi up, on the basis that 'fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me'. I was certain that he would fight this all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary (after all, that's what the dems did in FL in 2000).
I'll ask you this question: When the stimulus was rammed through, or the health care bill, or cap and trade (in the House, anyway), did you stop and say, "Well, at least my candidate was gracious in defeat and really played nicely by the rules"?
Politics is hard ball, and those who enter the arena must know this.
All that said, I must agree with you that I don't know Dino Rossi. And my name calling is out of line. For that, I apologize.
Perhaps it is time that we need a litmus test for candidates in California, Washington and Oregon. If you are not willing to go to the mat, say what needs to be said (even with the risk of being called 'racist' or 'too mean'), don't run. At this point, I could really care less about 'the type of campaign' one runs. My only concern is, are you willing to do whatever is necessary to win.
Yes, even in a Tsunami wave Republicans cannot win everywhere. The rest of the country provides enough electoral votes to elect the next President and that is what the GOP should focus on.
In the meantime, let California, New York, Washington, Maryland, and Massachusetts raise all the taxes they want. Let them chase away businesses and the most productive members of society and keep their unemployment rates high. Conservatives can usually relocate to friendlier areas or just grin and bear it.
“Washington deserved better.”
UGH, yes. Rossi’s 1st race was stolen in 2004 as most you know. ACORN created hundreds of votes out of thin air and was later convicted of crimes in KingCo. Hundreds of illegal felon votes were also counted and later exposed, but years later after Gargoyle was seated. (what do you do then, when the state apparatchi are mostly RATs?)
Rossi would have been a popular governor, and the RATS literally robbed us all blind. This year he ran as a ‘two time loser’ and is now a ‘3 time loser’ - but not a loser in my book as he’s one of a few legislators that has actually balanced a budget without raising taxes.
Half of WA ST are just dumb as rocks...

Well, Rossi hasn’t conceded yet, as far as I know.

If he’s down by 50,000 with all votes counted, do you think he should demand a recount? He’d have to pay for it - you gunna pitch in? That’s millions of $$s...Now if he’s within 12,000 or so, I think the state will pay for a recount...
...how much is it going to cost us to bail out Wa before they figure out it’s a lost cause?
You wait until all the votes are counted then see if there are any irregularities then challenge. If all of a sudden Rossi gets 60,000 voes from one area and they have just been counting Seattle he can’t challenge if he concedes!!!
There aren’t nearly as many people on the Eastside, beyond
I5 you still have Bellevue and Redmond. They are more inclined to Hillary than Barack, and beyond that what’s left
is Duvall, Woodinville, Fall City/Carnation and NorthBend.
All trying to be trendy and artsy. Only Monroe has the honesty to still have its biker bars on Main St.
