With South Carolina's victory of the first 'Deep South' black Republican to Congress since Reconstruction, one conservative thinks it's evident that the tea party is not racist.
Ron Miller, a conservative author, columnist, veteran and tea party member, says Tim Scott's election to Congress is "an impressive victory."
"I think it's a great testimony to Americans' ability to evaluate people by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin..."

In winning the election, Scott beat out....the son of late Senator Strom Thurmond and the son of former South Carolina Governor Carroll Campbell.
----snip
"...they've demonstrated their ability, not just with Tim Scott's election, but with Nikki Haley's election as the first female and Indian-American governor of that state, that they're perfectly capable of voting based on the issues..."

Allen West, a retired Army officer and an Iraq War veteran, won his race for the House and will be representing Florida's 22nd District.
----snip
"I think that [the elections of] Allen West and Tim Scott are the beginning of an awakening...

"But I believe that that awakening is now starting to happen in the black precincts across this country, and I think we're going to see a shift away from the Democrat [sic] Party, which has ill-served the black community for decades now."
While the nation made history two years ago by electing Barack Obama as the first black president, Jackson believes much of that support was misguided.
I think we were making history for the wrong reasons because we were electing someone [largely] based on emotion, based on wanting to try to move the country forward racially -- as opposed to based on the principles of the man...

"I think that the black community is just tired of that [message]...

In a sane world, there would be congratulations all over the media. But because these elected officials are Republican, the media chooses to make them invisible.
They disprove the media myth that Republicans are all racist.
Middle class working black families might finally have someone on thier side to help us all with the fight on over taxation.

I care nothing for “diversity”. Give me merit every time.
I suspect that the combined IQ of these three is HIGHER than the combined IQ of the Black Caucus...speaking of the CBC, I want these three to join..because as members they will then be entitled to see all the financials, to know where the $$ comes from, and where it goes..and BTW..they can hand out some deserving scholarships..
I heard Tim Scott speak at a Tea Party rally in Georgetown, SC last April, prior to the primary. I knew then he was the real deal conservative. It’s ironic he won the seat held from 1941 to 1970 by Mendel Rivers, an ardent segregationist and Democrat.
I really like the idea of black conservatives. You should be able to get 1) Conservatives and 2) Blacks (at least a few of them).
Find conservative black famous athletes.
I bet they are turned down. Wasn't J. C. Watts denied membership?
Even though it would never happen (hell he would refuse to run) I still think Thomas Sowell should be president. Our country would be much less of a mess with him running the show.
BTW..there's another issue or import with the Dem CBC members..with all the Dems that lost and/or retired...the CBC is now the major block vote in the Dem caucus..and there will be lots of the members becoming "ranking members" ..I can't wait to see Maxine Waters go ballistic when she gets gavelled down..

While I'm a bit hazy on the details, I believe that they pretty much had to let him join - they wouldn't, however, let him attend their meetings.
Shannon Sharpe. It’s part of the reason he’s not in the NFL Hall of Fame. It’s a travesty.
I believe he was.
The CBC is a racist organization, and doles out AA-based grants.
There is indeed some merit to placing honest observers in there, but we could also do with denouncing it.
He said that he didn't sell himself as a black American but as an American.
Blacks make up 12% of the population and they will continue to vote for the rats. I seriously doubt if there is a "great awakening" in this voting block.
Diversity has proven to be VERY expensive.
Merit, on the other hand, has proven to be VERY cost effective.
Yup, he’s famous enough. Run against Kohl? Was Shannon Sharpe a Packer? I think he was. These football players often wait too long after retirement. I’d want to see players running for Senate when they’re stars. No campaigning, they’re playing football. If they win, it might be a bummer for their team, but, hey, they’re senators.
Where would they run from? Where they went to High School, where they’re playing professionally at the time.
Allen West for President!
TT
I am proud to say that our new Congressman is a solid, unapologetic Conservative.
And he happens to be black.
Can’t wait to see if the CBC will welcome him and Col. West (R-FL) into their little group when they show up in DC.
