He’s like Chuck Berry - never looked young.

I also met him and he was a kind and generous man. Also, a great baseball manager.

Sparky grew up with Tommy Lasorda. They played Sandlot baseball together. He was telling a story about how one day a limosine pulled up with a little Black kid in it. He was looking to play baseball. He had new bats, balls and catcher’s equipment. So they let him play. He continued to come by once week and play. His name was Buckwheat.

As a Dodger fan growing up in the early to mid 70’s there was nothing better than the Red’s Dodgers and those great teams of Bench Concepion, Rose, Morgan vs Garvey,Russel,Lopes Sutton, messersmith and Alston/lasorda vs Sparky. RIP Sparky you made my childhood much better.

1975 would have been better if Rice could play.

George “Sparky” Anderson was probably my favorite baseball manager. He coached arguably the best baseball team of my lifetime, the Big Red Machine of the early 1970’s. Sparky was always laid back and was able to get anyone to play hard for him. He always had some great lines for the media too.
Baseball and baseball fans will miss this great man. RIP Sparky.

Being a middle school kid in Cincinnati in the 70’s was heaven for a Reds fan like myself. That is because of Sparky Anderson. Sparky running The Big Red Machine in my backyard made for such amazing memories. Thanks a lot Sparky!!!!! Rest in Peace.

The Big Red Machine! Thank you Sparky for making my teenage years when I was rooting for Perez, Morgan, Concepcion, Rose, Foster, Geronimo, Griffey, and Bench on to victory after victory so joyful and memorable.
RIP Sparky Anderson!

My dad worked the midnight shift. In the mornings when he came home, he would announce the news of the day: Reds win, Dodgers lost.
Then we would celebrate.
