the I lived in Sacramento California all during the last half of the 70’s (and beyond). One of my family friends was a CHP officer (Dale R) who was the chauffeur for Reagan for eight years and Brown for eight years.
You might remember the story of the 1974 Plymouth that Jerry Brown promoted as an alternative to the regular limo (either a Lincoln or a Caddy- I don’t recall). Brown wanted to show the state that he was saving money by NOT living in the Governors Mansion or driving a limo. Dale drove the 74 Plymouth every day to pick up Gov. Moonbeam and take him to work. It turns out the Plymouth got WORSE gas mileage than the limo but the press would have you believe Brown was saving the state money. What a joke.
I actually sat in the car one night while visiting Dale’s house (he kept it parked out front). It was as ugly as it’s infamous passenger.
