Except for governor there are no state-wide elected officials at the state level. Maine does not have a Lt. Governor. All other state-wide officials such as Secretary of State, Attorney General etc. are selected by the legislature-actually the House and Senate meeting as one body. So whoever controls a majority of the combined bodies selects all those state positions.
THE REPUBLICAN PARTY NOW HAS A LARGE GROUP OF CANDIDATES TO RUN FOR HIGHER OFFICE IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS.
I don't believe the Republicans have held both chambers of the legislature for over 30 years maybe longer. The Republicans in Maine have now recovered from Watergate!
I think the Rats took over in 1974.
New Freeperism???
The last time the GOP won the House in Maine was indeed 1972 (although coming close in the past decade), and tied the Senate as recently as 2001-03 (when the Dems and GOP rotated positions as Senate President), and the last time they won it outright was 1994. But the GOP hasn’t apparently won the legislature AND the Governorship at the same time since 1962.
