SF Chronicle: Nancy Pelosi out as speaker - GOP controls House
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | November 3, 2010 | Carolyn Lochhead

Washington - Voters toppled House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from power Tuesday, four years after she became the first female speaker in history, handing the majority of the House of Representatives to Republicans in a landslide surpassing the historic election of 1994.

Republicans defeated 58 incumbent Democrats, a stunning blow to President Obama and well more than the 39 seats they needed to seize control of the House, walloping Democrats from Florida to Michigan.

Pelosi, elected in San Francisco in 1987, had become a national symbol of voter rage.

The very achievements for which she was hailed as one of the most effective speakers in modern times - a huge health care overhaul, an $800 billion stimulus, climate-change legislation and a re-regulation of Wall Street - came to represent the overreach that independent voters rejected Tuesday.

More than anyone in Washington, it was Pelosi who delivered on President Obama's agenda. His plummeting popularity helped sink her, but she had become a near toxic figure in race after race, tied like an albatross to the necks of Democratic incumbents across the country. Without her, Obama will have to overhaul his legislative strategy.

Even worse, he has NO political skills (unlike Bill Clinton) with which to deal with Congress, and the only one of his advisors who did was Rahm, who wisely abandoned the Administration's ship before it hit the iceberg.

Obama is so screwed that Hillary may indeed take him down from within in 2012.

I have a feeling with Pelosi gone there will be a sudden surge in cases going forward concerning Obama and his qualifications to retain office.

The SCOTUS now I think a great big green light to go ahead with eligibility cases. Or fraudulent SS number cases.

Now, maybe, she will have time to read the Obamacare bill and find out what is in it.

[How’s that hopey, changy thing working for ya, Nancy? It’s working GREAT for the rest of us right now!]

“Sweet. WE control the purse strings.”

I’m afraid this is where we, and the new House members will stop thinking. We all have to remember how evil the dems are, how they’ll do ANYTHING (lie, cheat, etc.) to annihilate the GOP members. We don’t remember because that kind of nastiness isn’t inherent in us as it is in them.

We need to get a kick-ass spokesperson out there who can think one step ahead of them, and someone who isn’t mealy-mouthed and wimpy. Someone like Tammy Bruce would be good. She’s been entrenched with them before she left the Dark Side, and she understands how they operate. She won’t back down or take any crap. I’m not saying it needs to be her, but it needs to be someone like her.

I’m so afraid that, once the dems’ attacks and lies begin (and that’ll be this week), we’ll just roll over like we always do. Not only do we HAVE to DEFEND ourselves enthusiastically, we need to be in attack mode ourselves and be quick to point out their lies and elitist actions.

Example: We need to have someone out there who’ll get the word out about Obama spending $200,000,000 (that’s million!) A DAY on his current vacation while the jobs situation for Americans sucks.

I don’t know how soon it takes effect but at the very least this removes her from ever becoming POTUS in the event of both the President and VP are unable to function.

Not exactly yet. She retains her position until the new Congress is seated -- January 3, 2011, probably.

I think one thing that REALLY outraged Americans was Pelosi moving into that new office at the Federal office building in San Francisco only occupied about 1/6 of the year and costs over US$17,000/month in rent.

In fact, don't be surprised this will be her last term in Congress--her age and her increasingly unpopularity in Washington, DC could mean of her influence even if she becomes House Minority Leader again.

Correction of wording: it should have said “could mean a major reduction of her influence” in the second paragraph.

I was rather surprised that the messianic lauding was gone from both CNN and MSNBC. Many of their commentators were putting the defeats on Obama and his policies. John King (IIRC) on CNN called the House loses a 'shellacking'.

This pathetic beatch from Commiefornia no longer has any power.
For her it was nothing more then an ego trip.
I expect she will just quit, and go home in tears.
