(Flashback) Michael Steele: GOP won't win House
Politico ^ | 1/5/10

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele predicted Monday night that the GOP will not regain control of the House in the 2010 midterm elections.

Steele said during an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity that Republicans will see some “nice pick-ups in the House” but would not predict the number of seats the GOP will win. “I can't give a number yet,” Steele said. “We are just now beginning to look at races.”

Asked if Republicans will retake the House, Steele responded: “Not this year.” Steele added: “We still have vacancies that need to get filled. “If we do that, are we ready? I don't know. That's what I'm assessing and evaluating now.”

Michael Steele was making sure the Democrats let down their guard.

Hoo Boy, oh did they!

He’s a Machiavellian genius!

He may have doubted in January, but a lot of credit goes to Steele and his partnership with Palin in the last couple of months.

Christine O’Donnell needs to replace him, asap, unless anybody has a better suggestion on who to replace him with. I hope that Steele is, seriously, challenged, because he needs to be challenged.

Don’t forget that between then and now we had the Biden/Obama glorious Summer Of Recovery! I know of at least 4 lifetime Democrats that were swayed to vote Republican for the first time ever, thanks to that marvelous Summer Of Recovery!

if there were any mistakes this time around, its those that bragged about 10 senate seats and 100 house seats.....too much bravado....

luckily, the pubs did absolutely fantastic.....when you think about the state houses and the governorships.....

It’s always better to under promise and over deliver, and that’s what Steele tried to do there.

The prozac bunch predicting +12 senate and +100 seats were only setting themselves up for disappointment.

I think Michael Steele deserves to stay as head of the RNC. His job description was to get as many Republicans as possible elected. He did that. Haley Barbour suggested on Cavuto yesterday that the RGA could have used more support than they got from the RNC, but now we can see why it wasn’t forthcoming:

Steele ended up with more seats up for grabs than anyone predicted months and months ago. Steele was also able to seemlessly bring along the Tea Partiers and the Palin influence and neatly fold them into the GOP tent, leading to the big numbers.

If you think this was easy, just look at the trainwreck of a job that Cornyn did with the NRSC. He tried to give us Crist, the guy from Kentucky primary, and is still trying to give us Murkowsky. No wonder Jim DeMint was busting his chops along with the other establishment GOPers Tuesday night.

I feel that I want to replace him but it will be hard to replace him after the results of this election.

If he does get reelected in January, Palin will look to have been very shrewd once again.

Genius, he was simplying applying the rule of reverse psychology. Say that we won’t win, and the universe will grant you that wish

That quote is from frickin' JANUARY. Obamacare had apparently been defeated. If that had held, Steele would have been right. This tsunami started with the absolute contempt the Dems showed for the American People in passing Health Care ("We'll know what's in it once we pass it").

That was in January. Pelosi was making the same prediction yesterday.

Steele is a turkey; he can go beg Obambi to pardon him on Thanksgiving.

Haley Barbour.

a) Long history and good established networks with donors.

b) Married, normal person (not a witch), no scandals to speak of.

c) Can be trusted to bring both tea party activists and country club GOP to the table for common goals.

How was Michael Steele ANY HELP to Massachusetts? Look at the results in Massachusetts! Nothing major for the GOP, yet again! Every time I vote in Massachusetts, it’s no good! I’m sick of this! We are, already, hurting in Massachusetts, and Massachusetts is going to hurt even more, for many years to come! FU, Michael Steele! Remember his victory speech as the new RNC Chair where he said that he was going to help the northeastern states? Well, where is this help that you promised the northeastern states, Mr. Steele? So many people and so many businesses will be hurt in Massachusetts, for many years to come.

Why would we want someone who couldn't win his/her own race to lead the party? We did this before, when we picked a person who just lost his senate race from Maryland to be GOP chief.

Gee wasn’t it only a few months ago everyone here on this board was saying throw the bum out? now he’s a “genius”? Frankly I want him gone. He could have influenced Rove to keep his trap shut but didn’t. He could actually take a stance and stay with it. There are many things he could have done better...but hes what we got.

He has transformed my opinion of him in the last six months. He did a great job appeasing the Tea Partiers while keeping the Republican coalition together. He will need to stick with that mindset, or he will be replaced next year.
