VA-11 is extremely close; Fimian leading (!)
Virginia State Board of Elections ^ | November 2, 2010 | Virginia State Board of Elections

Connolly carried this district in 2008 by a pretty wide margin of 11.7% (54.7% - 43.0%).

With 57.14% reporting, Fimian holds a narrow lead (49.26% - 48.67%). Based on what I know about Fairfax politics, I'm not optimistic Fimian holds on, but I can hope.

I’m not so sure. If it were the other way around, I could see it going to a recount.

When Webb stole the election back in 2006 thanks to oh-so-conveniently-timed massive Democrat precincts (ranging from 70-30 to 90-10), Allen didn’t even demand a recount.

I think at this point Connolly will hold on very narrowly and there will be no recount (unless it’s mandated, which I don’t know for sure).

This is a huge shift to the right from 2008, so I’d say it’s a good thing regardless of who actually wins.

They’re still within a few 100 votes. There is no automatic recount in VA, it has to be requested by the loser if they’re within 1% after the final results are certified. The question is who pays. If it’s within 1/2% the cities/counties pay.

They’re within that margin as of now. If Mr. Fimian loses, he should request a recount. Chances are he won’t win the recount, but it’s worth the shot if it’s that close.

Damn disappointing. Fairfax keeps rewarding the fatass for wrecking the county.

Also disappointing that VA-8 isn't even competitive. What a solid bastion of zombies.

At least Virginia has ridden itself of Boucher and Perriello.

Gerald E. “Gerry” Connolly 101,775 49.14% Voter Turnout:
Keith S. Fimian 101,079 48.80%
Precincts Reporting:
163 of 168 (97.02%)

Well within recount range. Still. Down to 5 precincts. Let’s hope they’re conservative ones.

So far 3 seats have flipped to GOP in VA tonite. Nye, Perriello and Boucher.

Results as of 4:30 this AM:

Gerald E. “Gerry” Connolly 110,401 49.11% Precincts
Keith S. Fimian 109,914 48.90%

Reporting:
166 of 168 (98.80%)

The two remaining precincts are in Fairfax, which is not great news, but it still looks like they’re within .5%.

A recount is likely.

He’s extremely forgettable. That seat seems to flip every election.

Connoly leads 49.21% to 48.80%
They’ve counted all the votes but the provisionals.

” The State Board shall meet on the fourth Monday in November to ascertain the results of the November election.”

And then there’s 10 days for the loser to request a recount.

The latest report on the situation:
Connolly holds slim lead in Va.'s 11th District

Election 2010 may be over for most of the country, but nothing has been settled yet in Northern Virginia, where Rep. Gerald E. Connolly (D) clung Wednesday to an 820-vote lead over Oakton businessman Keith Fimian (R).

Running for reelection in the 11th Congressional District, which includes most of Fairfax County and part of Prince William County, Connolly led Fimian by 487 votes late Tuesday night and then increased his lead after ballots were counted from two Fairfax County precincts where voting machines had malfunctioned....

According to the WTOP account, the absentees (which would include military overseas ballots) have been counted:
Unofficial results have incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat, ahead of challenger Republican Keith Fimian by 921 votes in the 11th Congressional District race...

Fairfax County elections officials on Wednesday morning counted the votes from machines that malfunctioned in two precincts. The machines had been locked in the Fairfax County Government Center.

Before those votes from the Lorton Center and Laurel Hill precincts were tallied, Connolly led Fimian by 487 votes. The current Connolly lead includes absentee ballots but not about 390 provisional ballots, according to a Connolly spokesman.
