Sharron Angle files voter intimidation complaint
Politico ^ | 11/2/2010 | Molly Ball

LAS VEGAS — A lawyer for Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle has filed a complaint with the Justice Department alleging illegal voter intimidation on behalf of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's campaign.

The complaint is based on an article, which appeared Tuesday morning in National Review, that alleged Reid's campaign worked with sympathetic executives to put pressure on union casino employees to vote.

Supervisors were instructed to track down employees who hadn't voted and find out why, according to e-mails obtained by reporter and conservative blogger Elizabeth Crum.

Reid's campaign offered money and buses to get the workers to the polls, proposed that Reid personally intervene and told the bosses at Harrah's to "put a headlock" on supervisors to make sure they got workers out to vote, according to the e-mails between an unnamed Reid staffer and Harrah's executives. A casino executive distributed a spreadsheet with the names of employees and asked supervisors to track whether they'd voted.

Angle lawyer Cleta Mitchell decried what she called "union intimidation tactics" and called on the Justice Department to investigate possible election law violations.

Reid's campaign said the e-mails show no malfeasance, pointing out that Crum told Fox News she didn't think "anything either illegal or unethical was done here."

"This 'report' by a right-wing blogger who's literally been embedded within the Angle campaign has no credibility on its face,” said Reid campaign spokesman Kelly Steele. “That being said, given Sen. Reid's work to strengthen the state's top industry, it should come as no surprise that casino employees support his reelection."

Most casino workers on the Las Vegas Strip belong to the 60,000-member Culinary Workers Union, the largest local of the international Unite Here and a powerful political force in Nevada.

In the correspondence reported in National Review, the Reid staffer e-mailed Harrah's lobbyist, Jan Jones, a Democratic former Las Vegas mayor, to say the campaign would do "anything, name it" to help the company get its workers out to vote.

"We connected with Culinary, and the problem seems to be with the midlevel supervisors," the Reid staffer wrote to Jones. "They simply are not cooperating and listening to upper management." The staffer went on to ask, "Would it help to have the senator call Gary and help give you the backing you need?"

The e-mail was forwarded to other Harrah's execs by Marybel Batjer, the company's vice president of public policy and communications, with the note, "Please see the messages below that Jan has received from the Reid campaign."

Batjer continues, "She asked me to reach out to you to PLEASE do whatever we need to do to get the supervisors to know that there is NOTHING more important then [sic] to get employees out to vote. Waking up to a defeat of Harry Reid Nov. 3 will be devastating for our industry's future. I know everyone is working hard, but somehow the effort is not getting through the ranks."

Mitchell called the e-mails "a concerted scheme to violate the rights of Harrah's employees which clearly interferes with these employees' rights to cast a secret ballot for the candidates of their choice, without fear of reprisals, recriminations, job loss, or other adverse employment actions."

The Angle camp cited a federal statute that makes it illegal to intimidate, threaten or coerce voters. The campaign filed a similar complaint with Nevada state authorities.

Angle has previously complained of alleged voter fraud, but Nevada officials looked into the charges and said they found nothing amiss. Mitchell denied that the campaign was raising doubts about the process to lay the groundwork for a challenge to unfavorable election results.

Both campaigns have lawyers preparing strategies for a possible recount in the closely fought contest.

I prefer scumbag Harry Reid over Rino Sue Lowden. We don’t need no RINO’s anywhere. The scumbag democrats are better than RINO’s.

In Delaware I like to see bearded Marxist Chris Coons win rather than have another RINO senator Castle. So what if if Castle never lost an election in Delaware. He is still a bloody RINO.

I want to see lawsuits, fines, and jail time, and make a huge example of the corrupt corporate hacks, so the precedent is there to use against anyone else trying this type of work-place intimidation.

ALL states that had problems with ‘triple voter errors’ should be held for investigation for fraud.

Harry Reid strikes again - new bureaucracy & more Aliens-Travel Promotion Act

From the Christian Science Monitor:

“Democrats plan to continue the strategy with a tourism promotion bill, The tourism bill, especially helpful to states such as Nevada, which has been hard hit by a drop-off in visitors, proposes creating a nonprofit corporation to promote travel to the United States and correct “misperceptions about US entry policy” since the 9/11 attacks. It would be financed by an annual assessment of $20 million from the tourism industry and $100 million a year from taxpayers. “

Let’s dissect this, shall we?

“The tourism bill, especially helpful to states such as Nevada, .......

Harry is behind in the polls for his re-election...just buying some votes!

” proposes creating a nonprofit corporation to promote travel to the United States....

Nonprofit? Since when has any government bureaucracy been for profit?? Will this be another cabinet level department? Yet another Czar? ‘non-profits’ will likely be in charge of handling this department....can you say ACORN???

“to promote travel to the United States and correct “misperceptions about US entry policy” since the 9/11 attacks. “

In other words, let ‘em all in! 40% of foreign aliens become visa overstay illegal aliens. Foreign women, even the well to do, come here to drop their anchor babies and then take them home to grow up as “US voting citizens”, where they don’t even have to be here to vote in our elections..... Or they stay here and get the benefits of any US Citizen. This directly effects countries who sponsor terrorism.

“It would be financed by an annual assessment of $20 million from the tourism industry and $100 million a year from taxpayers. “

Tourism industry....that would be Harry’s big donors at the Vegas casino’s. He must keep those big donors happy! $20 million to them is a great investment to get the rich Saudi’s, etc. in their casinos who can’t get here now because they sponsor terrorism. And the employees? Can you say SEIU???

“and $100 million a year from taxpayers. “ That one speaks for itself!

Harry is real good at spending other people’s money, isn’t he??[snip]

I’m no RINO fan either...but what do Lowden and Castle have to do with Sharron Angle’s lawsuit?

Nothing directly of course but there is a huge common denominator in all of this. We defeated RINO's like Sue Lowden in NV and Castle in DE only to have the scumbag Rats score easy wins in general. Brilliant strategy .

I didn’t realize Reid won, let alone that it was an easy victory...(/sarc)

You are a fool.

Known Demo/Libs don’t fool anyone and don’t stab anyone in the back. You know where they stand and can oppose them.

RINOS lie to you and will abandon you when you need them most. Worst part of that is that the GOP and others like you demand that we support the RINOs even though they will stab you in the back in a heart beat.

McCain is your poster child.

We have a short-time sleeper here. He wants Harry Reid over Sue Lowden, and Chris Coons over Mike Castle. Neither Lowden nor Castle are on the ballot, but that doesn’t prevent him from mouthing his stupidity. He’s here simply to disrupt the conversation.

Do we really need this craziness?

Harry Reid is exactly who I picture as one of the senators when I read Vince Flynn’s book “Term Limits”.

Evidently you are only semi literate, too.

The fact that you had to ask demonstrates my point.

Geeze Eagle Eye, what the heck are are talking about?

I don't like your insult/innuendo. Further, I will not tolerate you and your attempt to berate me here.

If you have a issue, then come out with it.

Wow. Go back and read the thread.

BTW, I did not attempt to berate you. I actually did it.

If you can’t understand how RINOs are worse than Dems then I cannot help you and my labeling was totally spot on.
