BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The Secretary of State William R. Galvin says voter turnout is expected to reach record highs. He's projecting a bigger turnout in districts with highly contested congressional races. So far, Barney Franks' district has one of highest turnouts ion the state.
In Newton and North Attleboro, the lines were forming before the polls opened and the flow has been steady all day. People we spoke to say they're coming out to vote on tax issues.
The questions on the ballot were important to them. Some wanted to vote against the incumbent others felt it was important to stop the tide of opposition. Many say with all the hype and advertising they've seen- they simply couldn't stay home.

Oh, from your lips to God’s ear. To get rid of Bawney would be a blessing for all of America.
or “Brown-out on Barney.”
“I went to the source article and read the comments - WOW, the people there are PISSED”
Around here, and I assume in wherever Frank’s district is, Democrats don’t watch anything Fox, and so I think they’d be unlikely to ping into a discussion on a Fox website. Just my opinion.
“Big turnout in Newton (and Brookline) is bad for us; we need the rest of the district to have a huge turnout.”
When I was a student, I lived in Brookline. They made it basically impossible to register to vote there, even though I had a 12 month lease.
Students could sway these election easily, and Brookline has a great Orthodox community.
1: The dems are really scared their nancy-boy will lose and have rushed to the polls.
2: The conservatives believe they have a real shot at taking him out and have stormed the gates.
Monty - I'll take door #2!
Somewhere in Hell, Elbridge Gerry (hard "G", please), former Massachusetts Governor and U.S. Vice President, is softly chuckling.
Pelosi and Frank are at the top of my wish list to get defeated. There’s no one who has done more to damage this country than those two.
The Democratic Party strongly supports full civil rights for necro-Americans!
“This has to be Repubs and Indis. Why would dems show up in force?”
Liberals when they give away free box lunches, gift cards and free government surplus cheese...
I can’t say I agree - high turnout in Dem areas would suggest more DEM votes.
This has me worried.
Don’t forget cigarettes, beer and walking around $$.
Pray for the Election
Yes, Deval Patrick is in big trouble. Somebody pinch me, because I’m starting to think maybe we can win 4-5 congressional seats.
I’m in the 6th district. Good steady turnout here. Hardly any yard signs for Tierney and no supporters with hand held signs at the town square which is really unusual.
Most people I spoke with today said they voted to throw them all out (except our state senator-a republican who is unopposed!) - and yes on all the questions- rolling back the sales tax to 3%, repealing 40B, repealing the sales tax on alcohol etc. I do think Patrick is in trouble- if he does win its going to be really close. I think Hudak has a real shot at the 6th.
If # of votes is > 100% of the district voting population, Barney will win.
Brookline’s vote percentage in the past three presidential elections:
2000: Gore 74.32%, Bush 16.68%, Nader 8.19%
2004: Kerry 78.87%, Bush 19.55%
2008: Obama 80.74%, McCain 17.39%
So please forgive me if I’m not too optimistic about Brookline’s Orthodox Jewish voters coming to the rescue. Borough Park it ain’t.
Hey, I wonder how many times 0Dumbo’s Auntie Zutie(sp) voted today. Heck, she's not a citizen so therefore, she should be good for at least five or six votes. Right?
Barney Gone. I really hope so.
Good news, thanks!
Jewish population is, what, 1/3 of Brookline?
Of which probably 1/2 is Orthodox (or Russian or Israeli, but secular)?
= 16%
= the majority of the Republican vote of the town.
