Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Not Coming Out in Big Numbers
NRO ^ | November 2, 2010, 2:31 P.M | Jim Geraghty

Over in Ohio, Third Base Politics sends word that the Board of Elections Director for Cuyahoga County – the one that includes Cleveland – is on pace for 430,000 out of about 978,000 registered voters, roughly 43 percent turnout.

For perspective, the county made up almost all of Obama’s margin of victory in Ohio in 2008. Obama won 458,422 votes in this county in 2008, and beat McCain by 258,542 votes; Obama’s margin in Ohio was 262,224.

Democrats Ted Strickland and Lee Fisher needed big margins out of Cleveland, and so far, it’s not coming together for them.

Been driving thru inner city Toledo all AM till 1:00.

No lines. No crowds. No sign of much voting going on.

Suburbs?

Full parking lots.

Maybe.

But there’s still Columbusf, Dayton, Toledo...

Ohio is like any other state. The urban areas tend to the left.

“Not That Individual Turnout Anecdotes Tell Us That Much, But . . .
November 2, 2010 10:27 A.M.
By Jim Geraghty

Tags: Election Day

A few more turnout reports, this time focusing on the key districts . . .

South Carolina:

“I live in SC Congressional District 5 and wanted to let you know that turnout in my precinct was extremely heavy this morning–the most I can recall for a mid-term. Unless the loyal [Democrat John] Spratt base in the more rural precincts of the District are turning out in equal or better numbers, this should be good news for [Republican Mick] Mulvaney.”

Pennsylvania:

“When I voted this morning before work (~8:30 am), the poll worker I spoke to said they were running ahead of turnout from the last presidential election. I live in Peters Twp, PA, part of Tim Murphy’s district, which is pretty heavily Republican, so that should bode well for Pat Toomey and Tom Corbett.”

“I know you probably don’t want 1,629 meaningless anecdotal e-mails about turnout, but I am in a Republican leaning area of the PA-7 district (Sestak’s old seat) and voted at about 8:25 AM at my polling place. I was the only one there when I got there, and still the only one there when I left. A lady was walking in when I was pulling out of the parking lot though. I really do not have anything to compare it to, since I have never voted there before. But I did not think it was a good sign that I was the only one there (besides workers and people handing out voting guides). On the other hand, this polling place was clearly not expecting much of a turnout since they only had two voting machines in the whole room.”

Louisiana:

I have my doubts about the percentages here, but a reader submits, “Joseph Cao’s chances just went up from about 30% to over 50%. It’s raining across much of south Louisiana right now and the forecast calls for thunderstorms all afternoon and evening in New Orleans.”

That may not be good news for Dennis the Menace

That would be fun, but not as fun as seeing Bawney bite the dust.

Great news!!! Cuyahoga County votes casted in 2008 was 638,205. I don’t think they can find that many dead people today.

That is the truth. I used to live in Brook Park. I felt like the only conservative on Earth.

I went to my polling place around noon to vote.
It was empty, which surprised me (this is a pretty conservative Cuban/Honduran neighborhood in Miami).

I asked the poll worker where everyone was. He told me that early in the day the lines were a block long.

I think the people are motivated to get the dems out, and they showed up early.

Plain Dealer is reporting light turnout in Cyahoga County. Very bad news for Dennis. (I hope Sutton goes down with him).

I heard on the news late last week, that absentee ballots were about the same as two years ago. Surprising in a non-presidental election, but...BUT that republicans had cast MORE ballots than two years ago and dems were much lower.

I think it was something nuts like 145k republican absentee requests and 85k dem. It was just nuts and I wish I could find a link.

This is a true story. My dad died in 1989. He stayed on the voter roles for 10yrs. In Cuyahoga county. Every time I went in to vote, I would tell them and insist they cross it off. But if I didnt have the same last name or had moved, I am sure he would have been voting Dem, from the grave.

In other words, the blacks aren’t voting several times each as usual. Maybe the walking around money isn’t there. Maybe the bus broke down.

It seems that the Democrats are so discouraged that even the dead aren’t voting today.....

Most people probably already know that Obama, Biden, and Strickland spoke to a half empty arena in downtown Cleveland on Sunday.

The Shaw HS band performed and later led a bunch of people to the early voting office. Leaving aside the question of whether or not a public school band should be doing this, it was appropriate. The Dems are going to get spanked like my alma mater Maple Heights Mustangs spanked Shaw. >:)

I have never had to wait in line to vote. (although I sometimes vote early) Today my wife and I waited 15 minutes in our conservative Orlando FL district. Other polling places seem to also be quite busy.-
