(Nov. 1) -- The American people are mad as hell, and they aren't going to take it anymore. They're tired of billion-dollar bailouts that have bankrupted the country. They are tired of Democratic politicians who are raising their taxes. They are tired of a Congress that has basically done nothing over the past two years.
Come Tuesday, these angry voters are going to shake up Washington, by voting for a Republican Party committed to reversing the failed policies of the Democratic Party. Sounds like a pretty good list of complaints, right?
There's one problem. It's simply wrong.
In reality, bank bailouts have actually turned a healthy multibillion-dollar profit. The economy has expanded over the past five quarters. And since Democrats took control of both Congress and the White House in January 2009, 95 percent of Americans have seen their tax burdens go down. Yet according to a recent Bloomberg poll, Americans (by a 2-to-1 margin) believe the exact opposite.
Giving a single fixed welfare payment to everyone, including people who do not pay taxes, is not a tax reduction.
Sinple rule, to be effective at stimulating economic activity, taxes have to be reduced on the next dollar you earn, not the first one (and especially not on the one you never earned.)
A flat payment to everyone is not dramatically different in economic impact than robbery or arson. In robbery or arson, people have to spend money to repair or replace what was lost. Economic activity, but a net loss in wealth to society. Tax refunds to everyone stimulate people to spend, but the money had to come from somewhere (inflating the money supply simply steals a little of the value of every dollar already out there.) It always offsets something else that money would have been spent on, usually at a significant loss of efficiency (i.e. $1 is taken from the productive economy (i.e. earned dollars) and, due to the waste of gov't, <$0.50 is given to people to spend on whatever.)
LOLNews is more like it.
If only the dem congress had done nothing.....we would be far better off.
These crack smokers need to get a new line of work.
LOL!
Is he pretending that Democrats are the primary movers behind the "Bush tax cuts"? And is income tax down simply because there's less income to tax?
Mr. Cohen is drunk on the Kool-Aide (or is that Kook-Aide?).
I am so sick of hearing how TARP is making money. Will the huge amount of $$$ the government is making help the people who lost jobs, lost savings, lost thier houses be helped? Will the cites that have lost tax base be helped?
Sure, the Banks and the government came out on top, and the people are crushed.
You could have knocked me over with a feather this morning as I was listening to a St. Louis station. The host was talking about Bill Mahr's show and he had Clooney (the nut job) on and Mahr I suppose started on his conservative bashing while they were talking about that obscure place known as, Darfur (sp?) and Clooney actually said that conservatives have been the biggest help with that effort. I was shocked. Generally, even if it's the truth, they will never acknowledge conservative's true effort in some of these 'causes'.
My beef with the dimocrats is not the financial mess they have made. I could live with all that. What scares the heck out of me is the way they have destroyed the American political “process” and turned us into a Soviet Socialist Amerika. What they have done will take decades to fix. I hope the Tea Parties are prepared to stay the course.
And Gas by 50%

Maybe Clooney is begining to grow a sense of common sense...
LOL! What a bunch of fruitcakes!!
Anger is a good thing, when focused in the right direction.
You can end your reading right there, with his first gross inaccuracy.
Mr. Cohen: Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of Journo-List?
*giggle*
There are morons, absolute morons, and world class morons; then there’s Michael Cohen, the author of this drivel, off in Outer Space in a class all by himself.
Anecdote: I was in the local community health clinic where folks go to see psychiatrists and therapists. In the waiting room. About a year or so ago. Quite a bit after the Obama election........ I overheard a woman talking about a loved one who was experiencing some emotional health problems, and part of the issue was the loved one's frustration that "Obama was elected and he was supposed to make everything better yet everything is still terrible" or words to that effect.
Sad. Evil is seductive and it takes advantage of the vulnerable. One of the cruel things about Obama is that he received such giddy, emotional support from folks who are the first to suffer under socialism. The man is evil.
