Whatever the outcome of today's election, this much is clear: It will be a long time before Americans ever again decide that the leadership of the nation should go to a legislator of negligible experience—with a voting record, as state and U.S. senator, consisting largely of "present," and an election platform based on glowing promises of transcendence. A platform vowing, unforgettably, to restore us—a country lost to arrogance and crimes against humanity—to a place of respect in the world.
We would win back our allies who, so far as we knew, hadn't been lost anywhere. Though once Mr. Obama was elected and began dissing them with returned Churchill busts and airy claims of ignorance about the existence of any special relationship between the United States and Great Britain, the British, at least, have been feeling less like pals of old.
In the nearly 24 months since Mr. Obama's election, popular enthusiasm for him has gone the way of his famous speeches—lyrical, inspired and unburdened by the weight of concrete thought.

We know that Obama is no Reagan. Now the most dyed-in-the-wool Democrats must admit that he is no FDR. Like him or not, at least FDR was good at talking to people.
Oh, good grief. Libs could all spare themselves the effort of writing these maudlin eulogies and simply go back and read what conservatives said and wrote before the 2008 election. WE TOLD THEM SO!!!
I’m no Roosevelt fan, but Obama is less that the stuff you wipe off your shoe if you’ve stepped in something stinky.
Obama does not like us.
FDR was a socialist and a would-be dictator, except that the system of checks and balances was able to contain him. Nonetheless, he did do a number of things that were necessary to bring the United States into the 20th century (such as putting regulations on the financial sector to prevent another Great Depression).
Obama comes from a rather different mindset than Roosevelt. The latter’s policies were rooted in the paternalistic progressivism of the late 19th and early 20th century. The former’s policies are based on modern college campus Marxism, which teaches that America=bad, white man=bad, and Christianity=bad.
In fact, some of FDR’s beliefs would be heresy to today’s Democrat Party. As an example, he understood that people needed work and did not believe in straight welfare. Of course, it was easier during an era when most Americans were ashamed to accept a welfare check.
And let us not forget that the New Deal really began under Hoover.
That cover is pretty ironic, considering that Time founder Henry Luce was a fanatical Republican who hated Roosevelt. If he came back from the dead and saw what his magazine looks like today, he’d probably kill Dick Stengel, Joe Klein, and Joel Stein.

He said no, he didn’t know FDR. But FDR knew him.
Obama doesn’t know us, but we know him. This is why he is losing.
Roosevelt is our greatest President. Obama is not even a shadow of that greatness. He’s looking to be a one termer and not because he’s a Democrat.
Yup. The American people trusted him four times with our nation’s highest office. I don’t think people have that regard for Obama. He came in with a lot of goodwill and the hopes of a great country and systemically trashed that and tore the hopes the people had placed in him into shreds. And he deserves to be utterly repudiated for that tonight.

All other presidents are judged by their first two terms in office; if you judge FDR that way he is the man who failed to prevent WWII and failed to stop - indeed, who added to - the Great Depression.Before you say that no one could have prevented WWII, realize that Winston Churchill was telling anyone who would listen that Hitler had to be stopped, years and years before WWII. But he wasn't in power, and those who were must bear the shame that they were not as prescient as Churchill.
Compare that two-term performance to that of Ronald Reagan, who got the country going again and whipped inflation (after Carter's stagflation) subdued the energy crisis, and transcended communism. Roosevelt's performance pales in comparison.FDR's real monument is the 22nd Amendment forbidding presidents to run for a third term. Which only Roosevelt ever did.
FDR is underatted in how big a leftist he was. If he had his way on everything we’d have been living Obama’s socialist fantasy long ago.
If he had his way, we’d be North Korea.
