FDR was a socialist and a would-be dictator, except that the system of checks and balances was able to contain him. Nonetheless, he did do a number of things that were necessary to bring the United States into the 20th century (such as putting regulations on the financial sector to prevent another Great Depression).

Obama comes from a rather different mindset than Roosevelt. The latter’s policies were rooted in the paternalistic progressivism of the late 19th and early 20th century. The former’s policies are based on modern college campus Marxism, which teaches that America=bad, white man=bad, and Christianity=bad.

In fact, some of FDR’s beliefs would be heresy to today’s Democrat Party. As an example, he understood that people needed work and did not believe in straight welfare. Of course, it was easier during an era when most Americans were ashamed to accept a welfare check.

And let us not forget that the New Deal really began under Hoover.
