Islamic militants attack Baghdad Catholic parish during Mass; dozens slain

  November 01, 2010

Gunmen linked with al-Qaeda stormed a Catholic church in Baghdad during Mass on October 31.

“They entered the church with their weapons, wearing military uniforms,” said an 18-year-old who survived the attack. “They came into the prayer hall and immediately killed the priest.”

After the gunmen took the worshippers hostage, US troops and Iraqi police stormed the parish in a rescue attempt. One gunman detonated a suicide belt, and a shootout ensued, leaving at least 37 hostages and 7 members of security forces dead along with 5 terrorists.

The Islamic State of Iraq-- the Iraqi al-Qaeda affiliate-- said it was responsible for attacking what it called “the dirty place of the infidel which Iraqi Christians have long used as a base to fight Islam.” The group said that it was taking action in support of Muslims in Egypt, charging that Muslim women are being held hostage by Coptic Orthodox clerics. The group warned that it could take action against the Copts next.

At a midday audience on November 1, Pope Benedict XVI decried the “senseless violence—all the more ferocious because it affected defenseless civilians.”

“Faced with the brutal violence that continues to tear the peoples of the Middle East apart”, the Holy Father added, “I renew my appeal for peace.” Chaldean Catholic Bishop Shlemon Warduni—who visited survivors on Monday, together with Chaldean Patriarch Emmanuel III Delly—remarked that “the Christian community no longer feel safe, not even in the House of God.” He predicted that the attack would trigger a new round of emigration as Iraqi Christians look for security elsewhere.

The Catholic viewpoint of this massacre.

I know this happened yesterday, but I believe there are some additional facts here. (As well as other sources.)

One seems to ask, "Why, Lord?" But then I remember that out of every difficulty a greater good will come.

With all due respect, all that can come out of a radical muzzie atrocity is the time span until the next one.

Sad but true — until they themselves are exterminated.

Thousands of American casualties to bring the “blessings of democracy” to this Mohammedan cesspool and this is what we have to show for it, more dead Eastern Christians!

Yet one more story from the Middle East that you’ll never see from any MSM outlet.

And Zero lectures the U.S. about tolerance.

Says NOTHING to Muslims other than a string of apologizes showing weakness and provoking further attacks.

I cannot say that the Pope is wrong to urge prayer for peace, but the Muslims understand much better the actions of a previous Pope. Pope UrbanII who launched the first crusade.

I believe one day a new crusade will have to be launched. These Islamics have no intention of backing off any time soon, and the atrocities in the Middle east will become worse as they become more powerful.

If I were a Christian in the Middle east, I would remember the holocaust and run before the Islamics fire up the ovens.

**If I were a Christian in the Middle east, I would remember the holocaust and run before the Islamics fire up the ovens.**

May be happening there now — how would we know?

But those ovens are a gruesome sight — saw them at Auschwitz.

You can now expect our mooooooooderate US muslims to get to the streets to officially protest this barbarism. Our muslims are soooooo very different from those you find elsewhere.

Each Muslim in any country not ruled by Sharia Law is required to identify that country as Dar-Al-Harb...Land of War.

The Islamic definition of peace is not a Western definition.

The most bizarre aspect of this is that Saddam Hussein actually protected Christians in Iraq (which is why so many were safe there until his government fell). I remember when the US invaded, Iraqi Christians in Michigan warned what would happen in the vacuum that would be created in his absence (I believe he had actually helped build a Chaldean-Rite Church in their area). His deputy prime minister (Aziz?) is a Christian (I believe he was just sentenced to death for some thing or other).

US military should have a high-level task force to fully investigate these incidents and target the attackers involved for severe reprisal. It is our responsibility. This genocide against Christians is one of the worst legacies of “Operation Iraqi Freedom.”

That is because Sadadam was a secularist and ran a secular government.

Unfortunately Iraq seems to be an Islamist country now.

[O]ut of every difficulty a greater good will come.

Yea, verily.

1 Who is this who comes from Edom,
      With dyed garments from Bozrah,
This One who is glorious in His apparel,
Traveling in the greatness of His strength?—

“ I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
2 Why is Your apparel red,
And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?
3 “ I have trodden the winepress alone,
And from the peoples no one was with Me.
For I have trodden them in My anger,
      And trampled them in My fury;
Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments,
And I have stained all My robes.
4 For the day of vengeance is in My heart,
And the year of My redeemed has come.
5 I looked, but there was no one to help,
      And I wondered
      That there was no one to uphold;
      Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me;
And My own fury, it sustained Me.
6 I have trodden down the peoples in My anger,
Made them drunk in My fury,
And brought down their strength to the earth.”
      -- Is: 63:1-6 NKJV

Here's to it being sooner rather than later.

Best reaction to this story:

1. Religion of Piece strikes again
2. This is all Bush’s fault/sarc
3. This is all Israel’s fault/sarc
4. The Pope provoked this with his inflammatory rhetoric/sarc
5. All of the above.
