Television comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert drew tens of thousands of people to the National Mall on Saturday, promising to skewer partisan politics three days before contentious U.S. elections.
The Comedy Central hosts' "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" started off as part slapstick comedy show and part outdoor festival concert.
Stewart opened the festivities by declaring that "10 million" people showed up, representing all ethnic groups in America.
"It is a perfect demographic sampling of the American people," said Stewart, who hosted U.S. President Barack Obama on his show on Wednesday.
"As you know, if you have too many white people at your rally, then your cause is racist, but if you have too many people of color at your rally, then you must be asking for something: special rights -- like eating in restaurants or piggy back rides -- something that we as a society are not ready to give," he added.
The rally, widely viewed as a response to "August's "Restoring Honor" rally organized by conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, blurred the lines between satire and political activism.

thank you
Steward Colbert rally:
Looks like they deliberately used a different location to make the comparison harder. Offhand, I'd say there's less than half the numbers here, despite the presence of several famous entertainers, free food, free bussing, union pressure, and free publicity from the media.
Well they went there looking for a joke and they got one. That isn’t a rally, it’s a flea market for potheads.
The Beck rally was incredible in attendance relative to this, as well EVERYBODY was responsible for getting there themselves, and nobody was fed at the expense of the organizers either.
BIG difference in the manner the crowd was assembled, as well it will be a huge mess when they leave I’m certain. The MSM probably will not show us the mess. Hoping we have some of our own there to take pictures of it all.
aside: Obama just said “we’re funding global AIDS”?????
he’s speaking in CT
he said “we’re funding global AIDS”????? is he nuts?
unless “global AIDS” is the name of a treatment program he just seriously mis-spoke, twice
“we’re funding global AIDS”???
LOL !!!
My husband said he didn’t see one person there he’d consider employable.
I imagine weed smell everywhere.
DUmmies.
And he said “the other side” (Repubs — or, rather, the enemy) are not funding “global aids.” Abject lie!
Based on these pictures, my guess is that the Beck rally drew about 600,000. The Stewart/Colbert rally probably drew under a third of that.
agreed...i was in and out of it...it was almost as there were signs around the rally which read; “BLACK PEOPLE GO AWAY”....
i’m sure the lunatic keith loserman will be incensed....
No fizzle, no pop, doa!
LOL, have a rally with live entertainment and lots of free stuff, and who would you think would show up??? The people who load up on free stuff, the “Freeloaders”!! ;o)
... can’t wait to see the trash left behind .
RE: “That was a whiter rally than any tea party.”
***************
I watched a few minutes on C-SPAN. “Entertainers” appeared to be the black folk there — not many non-white faces in the crowd. And most of them looked like college age kids, probably Stewart’s fans. More clean cut than a lot of the leftist rallies and I suspect that was due to the Stewart audience.
Decent sized crowd, and buses courtesy of HuffPo and Oprah, etc. But it was nothing compared to the Restoring Honor 8/28 event — not by any stretch of the imagination. And they had to offer tons of entertainment to help get them there.
Honestly..., that looks like less than 10% as much as the Beck Rally, perhaps 5%. It’s only about 1/5th as long as that showing on the Beck Rally left, and Becks also had people on the right under those trees. Look how wide that Beck side on the left is going from the pool all the way under the trees clear over to the other trees.
The Colbert crowd is only a little wider than the pool itself, up on the other end of course.
Colbert should have known better. He looks like an ass-hat clown for doing this. They can’t even provide transportation and get more than 5 to 10% as many people to show up.
Pathetic. It flopped... Call the slaughter-house and get them to drag this carcass out of there. It’s dead and stinking up the place.
“he said were funding global AIDS????? is he nuts?”
Thanks for that. Yes, he is. He’s also thoughtless. Had he NOT the teleprompter team, the teleprompter, earpiece microphone, he would be nothing, but the babbling idiot we see occasionally when all those devices are momentarily NOT at his disposal. This guy had a teleprompter in a meeting with 12 people it was reported I believe yesterday here at FR.
There are on “H” of a lot of embarrassed Americans going into this election cycle that have to make up for their stupidity in 2008.
Are you serious?
If you find it, post it!
Gee..I wonder how many child molester advocates were at the Beck Rally?
Love one of the comments that said “Finally a rally for the rest of us, those of us with critical thinking skills.”
Hilarious!!! Was it “critical thinking skills” that got Obama elected??
