Actually they *DO* if they can not establish or maintain radio comms with the ‘crew’.
There are some universally recognized forms of communication, hand signals and otherwise.
For instance if you are militarily intercepted and given the ‘follow me’, you put your landing gear down.
If you are the ‘crew’ and you see tracer fire flashing by the left wing ... you put your landing gear down. ;-)

Not too bad. F-15s with external tanks have a combat RADIUS (out and back, including mission) of over 1000 nm. One tanker and they’re good for this.

Yeah, this was my thought as well. Why scramble the fighters to escort, unless the plane has been hijacked. If a bomb is on board, and detonates, the F-15s would be at risk as well.
