U.S. NAVAL BASE GUANTANAMO, Cuba Omar Khadr told the widow of the American soldier he killed that he's "really sorry for the pain I've caused your family," insisting he no longer carried any anger or hate after eight years in prison.
In an unexpected twist in his sentencing hearings, Khadr took the stand himself Thursday to apologize to Tabitha Speer, widow of U.S. special forces medic Christopher Speer.
Khadr stood in the witness box and addressed Tabitha, seated just metres away in the gallery.
"I'm really, really sorry for the pain I've caused your family," said Khadr. "I wish I could do something to take this pain away from you. That's really all I can say."
Speer's widow sobbed as Khadr took the stand, but when he stood up to apologize, she clasped the hands of the supporters seated beside her and shook her head.
Khadr delivered an unsworn statement, meaning he did not swear in court that his statements were true, and the prosecution didn't have the right to cross-examine.
Khadr's surprise testimony he hadn't been on the list of witnesses the defence submitted capped an emotional day in which both Tabitha Speer and Khadr cut through the courtroom formality and spoke to each other directly for the first time.
Earlier, Tabitha Speer took the stand, and staring at Khadr, said she would always see him as a murderer.

A Muslim lying to an infidel - nothing new here.
Oh I’m really very very sorry...if your loved one had converted to Islam I wouldn’t have had to kill him(sarcasm on)

Bush and the rest really f&&ked up. All these should of been field inteerogated and then shot.
I don’t know. He didn’t have to say it, and maybe he really is sorry. I don’t see that saying this would have gained him anything.
You can never say for certain but let’s hope he’s sincere. People commit horrible crimes and God can come into their lives and they can realize the harm they have done and repent. I’m not going to guaranty that’s what happened here but as a Christian its fundamental to me that evil people can change and be redeemed.
“He didnt have to say it, and maybe he really is sorry”.
...Gee. Suddenly I feel for him.~sarc
Isn’t it time for him to meet Allah
I’ve known many Muslims. They can be, on an emotional level, sincerely sorry for having done something horrid. But deep down they know it was right, because their Prophet Muhammed would have approved and they are sure of being a good Muslim.
These are the only people on Earth who are capable of truly believing two contradictory facts at the same time.
I truly do not understand how anyone can live such a schizophrenic way of life.
He needs to hang.
Why hasn’t this s-o-b been hung already?
I’m glad he’s sorry. Now hang his worthless murdering ass.
Apology accepted........now kill him.
Ideally yes...realistically it wouldve been a nightmare. Especially in light of the wiki leaks. Better to have shot him on sight,as they did and not bothered with saving his sorry ass afterwards.
” I dont see that saying this would have gained him anything.”
He’s avoiding the death penalty & trying to get paroled as soon as possible.
“These (Muslims) are the only people on Earth who are capable of truly believing two contradictory facts at the same time.”
That isn’t true. Liberals do this all the time. It’s called ‘the ends justifies the means’.
Taqiyya plain and simple. We should always carry a Bible, a wooden stake and a silver bullet with these scumbags.
He said it while not under oath. In other words, a free pass to lie (not that he needed such a pass, as muslims are allowed to lie).
What did he gain from saying this? Much. He offered the “I'm sorry” tripe as an attempt to beguile others, possibly you, into thinking he might be repenting. His unsworn statement is simply to generate sympathy, to mitigate his guilt, thereby lessening his punishment.
