Park Permit Reveals Details of Stewart/Colbert Rally
PopEater ^ | October 28, 2010

Precious little information has been leaked about Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" in Washington, D.C. this Saturday -- until now. While Comedy Central continues to stay mum about the festivities, the Christian Science Monitor had the great fortune of acquiring the schedule portion of the National Park Service permit that was issued on Wednesday.

If you're heading to the rally on the National Mall, you'll be treated to a performance by The Roots, assorted comedy routines, quick sets by Mavis Staple, Jeff Tweedy and Sheryl Crow and, of course, appearances and speeches by the 'Daily Show' and 'Colbert Report' stars.

There will also be a Jumbotron, a segment called "The Sanity and Fear Awards" and a reading by 'Law & Order' alum Sam Waterston. Here's the rundown, according to NPS representative Dena Lowe, who treated the CSM with the details:

10:00 AM: The pre-pre-show begins with videos and music on the Jumbotron to keep the gathering crowd friendly and entertained.

Noon: The pre-show starts with a performance from The Roots.

12:40: A comedian (to be determined) warms up the audience.

12:57: A video countdown with a show introduction.

1:00: The show kicks off with the National Anthem by a musical guest (to be announced).

1:05: Mr. Stewart welcomes the crowd.

1:20: Mr. Colbert enters, and two actors – Don Novello and Sam Waterston – perform readings.

1:40: Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staple perform for 10 minutes, followed by Stewart and Colbert until 2PM.

2:15: Sheryl Crow performs for five minutes, followed by speakers and guests (to be determined).

2:30: Musical guests (also still being lined up) come on.

2:40: The show turns to a pre-taped sequence – "The Sanity and Fear Awards."

This rally claims to appeal to the moderates, but in actuality, it is a liberal rally. It will be a day for young people who think they are "cool" siding with mainstream pop culture against those "radical" Tea Partiers and the leftwingers. Obama endorsed it, the DUmmies on DU are excited about it, and look who are going to be there:

Many outside groups have announced their intention to join in on the festivities, including One Nation March to Rebuild America and End War, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Media Matters.

I see this as a “I’m not serious, I’m apathetic rally” - how else could you view an event hosted by two comedians, however popular they may be?

The condition of the place when the crowd leaves tells the true story...

Good weather for the Marines, who will also be holding an event in DC that weekend (and who bought up all the port-a-potties so the lib $h!t heads can't use 'em)

So at the Stewart/Colbert rally, Stewart and Colbert are actually in front of the crowd live for about 15 minutes?

Sounds like a flop in the making.

I’m sure they’ll turn out a good crowd, because the Left has too much invested in this for there not to be.

They really COULD help us out a great deal with this event.

If we’re lucky, this will turn into another ‘Wellstone Memorial’, and 0bama will show up for it.

The Left has made a terrible electoral mistake with 0bama in 2008 by relying on the ‘youth vote’, minorities, and academic/union/elitist liberals for a political base. All of them combined can’t top 25-35% of the electorate, and in trying to please them all, they will alienate virtually everyone else. What spells disaster for them is the fact that during a midterm election, a good part of that pathetic coalition isn’t going to show up to vote. The alienated middle class voters that pay taxes WILL.

They might have painted themselves into a corner which will yield election results of the likes we have never seen. We could have MOST of the people that voted against 0bama in 2008 showing up to vote while a good part of the people that voted for him stay home.(some won’t even know there IS an election)

Hope they’re short on Porta-Potties, as had been rumored.

Years from now a small group of people will gather on the anniversary of this demented circus at the National Mall and speak of what an inane event it was.

It looks like the organizers didn't want Obama there.

Waste of time!!! Early voting by millions nullifies this rally before it ever begins. Stewart & Colbert ain’t too bright. Now, on the other hand, if Stewart & Colbert are in this for their own glory which I suspect they are, it might have some benefit for them in increased exposure, etc. But helping the Democrat party and Obama, forget it!!!!

How many pieces of toilet paper is Sheryl Crow allowing Colbert and Stewart to use?

Please don't pray for rain and wind. My daughter has her physical test for a Park Police job in Anacostia Park. She has to run a mile and a half. Please pray for her to run like the wind. And pray for the Marine run also. The Marines and my Air Force daughter deserve a clear day. Let's all pay no attention to the lunatic gathering. They are not worth one thought.
