The U.S. military is looking into an incident on Saturday in which it lost communications with 50 long-range nuclear-armed missiles based in the northern United States. The U.S. Air Force's new Global Strike Command lost communications with the missiles for about 45 minutes, and says it immediately dispatched troops to inspect the sites. The check determined there was no damage and no evidence of sabotage.
A spokesman for the command says investigators believe a faulty circuit board at a control center was to blame. The spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel John Thomas, says experts found that the same type of part failed at two other Air Force missile control centers in the late 1990s.
The military has launched two investigations into the incident, but a Pentagon spokesman, Colonel David Lapan, says the Air Force does not see the disruption as significant.

Why Not Minot?????
I thought that electronics from another country are not allowed on strategic weapon systems because of a possible virus attack.
I will never understand what happened there.
I’m still worried about it.
I’m sure we will never get the whole story. I doubt it would matter anyway as I’m also sure that Obozo would never commit our strategic forces in the event we are attacked with nuclear weapons. He would believe it was our fault, and that a response would be inappropriate.
Freezin’s the reason!
I thought Minot was a cat ‘n mouse thing: a realllly weird thing, this noncom looks like an attack.
Guess we’ll wait and don’t see :) :(
maybe those guys were on to something with their UFO claims the other day.
So, if that is the case, it should be all of two minutes work to verify.
Right?
Depends how old the boards are...
Perhaps they had to go and use an E-Bay “Buy-it-now” auction to get replacements, just like NASA had to for some of their old equipment...:^)
No.
Seen same board fail like this before?
Test board for same fail.
If no fail, it's something else. Obviously, this time it's something else.
So why present the old fail?
Need to calm people down.
I realize how silly I sound but I have an uneasy feeling about Obama's upcoming trip to India and Indonesia. He is taking all his family, both Air Force Ones and a lot of other people, almost as if he is getting the Hell out of Dodge before the big bang.
This "missile communications failure" is another clue. Sorry folks. We couldn't fire back, we lost communication with our missiles.
"Just a minute, man..."
Good ole Jack Ripper...that was from Dr. Strangelove of course.
ECONCOM was the cover name for an activity in the book and movie 7 days in May. Perhaps that is why (o)bama and his crowd are getting out of Dodge a day after the election, maybe he sees it coming. When he does return, I’d love to see someone like a dug up Curtis LaMay or George Patton sitting behind the desk in the Oval office saying to him, what do you want, followed by take him away.
Hmmm... It’s only October?
Exactly so! And, I did. For five years.
A girl behind every tree! My Uncle was stationed there for a few years. He would call us in Michigan and warn us a couple days in advance of any bad storm heading our way! more accurate than the paid weather guessers.
