Everytime I see Lamar Alexander I think of those red flannel sweaters he and his supporters wore in his run for the Republican nomination in 1996...Anyway, Lamar is headed to Delaware
politicalticker
Lamar Alexander, the third-ranking Republican in the Senate, will make a campaign appearance Friday in Delaware with GOP Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, CNN has learned.
The Tennessee senator is the first member of the Senate Republican leadership to appear with O'Donnell, according to an Alexander aide.
O'Donnell stunned and disappointed the GOP establishment when she beat Rep. Mike Castle in the Republican primary. Castle was considered a sure winner in the general election, but O'Donnell now trails her Democratic opponent Chris Coons by double digits.
"Christine O'Donnell's election will help provide a badly needed check and balance on a runaway federal government that has given us too much spending, too many taxes, too much debt, and too many Washington takeovers," Alexander said in a statement posted in the endorsements section of O'Donnell's campaign web site.
At the 9am event at Buckley's Restaurant in Centerville, Alexander will thank O'Donnell's volunteers and supporters and he will hold a press conference. Notice the article says that this is "the first member of the Republican leadership to appear with O'Donnell." There is simply no excuse for the GOP leadership to not do everything in their power to win this Senate seat from the Democrats, especially in a possible wave election, anything can happen...
Take your time, Lamar.
McCain is campaigning for Angle and Lamar! is campaigning for O’Donnell. I guess De Gaulle was right, everyone rushes to the aid of victory.
It was a red flannel shirt not a sweater! “Only a pimp from cheap New Orleans whorehouse would carry a pearl handled pistol”— Patton.
Christine just can't get a break can she.
Contrary to the angry folks here Lamar can help her in a left leaning state like Delaware.
I’m glad to have it.
Definitely a signal from the old guard that there might be some new Senators and they want them to think they might owe them something. McCain and Alexander...old politicians preserving their careers. Rushing in to look like they are “father of victory” before the new blood turns them out to pasture.
I’m happy to see him there, Bob Dole endorsed her, he could go, even Romney if it would help. anything to get her over the finish line.
I happen to not hate Lamar Alexander.
I can’t remember anything at all about him. But I know that he’s old, but not as old as McCain, and that he ran for President at least twice before. I think that he’s been a Governor, a Senator, and has been a Cabinet Secretary.
Gingrich, Romney and Huckabee all have major flaws. They’re not Conservative. And they don’t have the wide experience of Lamar.
I’ll be supporting a Conservative candidate in 2012. I don’t think Gingrich, Romney or Huckabee are Conservative. I don’t recall anything about Lamar, except that 20 odd years ago I don’t remember hating him. I don’t assume that he’s conservative, but he’s more acceptable to me than Mitt Gingabee.
We all do know that Republicans have a tendency to support old dudes who have been around a long time, with a wide body of experience. Lamar Alexander, as much as anybody, fits that classic Republican nominee template.
And thanks to Lamar for helping Christine. It’s support from the “reassuring” wing, the “normal” wing of the Republican Party.
So, People of Delaware, if you're against over half of the things on the above list, please vote for Christine. America needs your Vote!
This race could be an election night stunner.
Lamar is a typical Howard Baker style TN GOP guy who would have been a John Stennis-Sonny Montgomery style Democrat in the 50s before southerners followed social conservatism to the GOP.
His ACU is 79....not very good. Jim DeMint has a 98 lifetime and 100 in recent years as a perspective.
I campaigned for Lamar's opponent in the primaries twice now to no avail.
But Lamar does have sensible and centrist gravitas which can help in Delaware.
Tennessee has open primary and so historically without guidance from a firm state hack system, several right wing candidates split vote and the moderate ...often well funded with Democrat money too...wins the primary. It has given us Corker and the new soon to be governor Haslam too.
But the state has gotten more right wing and now basically Memphis and Nashville proper is all the left still owns so we will have our day soon.
Given a good Tea Party candidate, Lamar will be history here in Tennessee.
It certainly could be plus it will certainly "set the pace" for the rest of the races. The prelims will be watched by everyone. C'mon Delaware, show us a pair, be the Paul Revere for the rest of us and drive the nation absolutely wild with a Delaware Victory for Christine!
Alexander AND Corker got the nomination because two conservatives split the vote and let the RINO through. The Tennessee Republican Party has to stop that crap and they can do it by forcing all the wannabes to sign a pledge to drop out of the race before the ballot printing deadline if they are not polling in the top two. If they won’t sign the pledge or abide by it, the party can decide who will be on the ballot.
Looks like same thing happened with the candidate for governor. I hope Haslam doesn’t let us down.
The stunner is going to be here in calif. Fiorina is going to win
