CBS's The Good Wife finds Al Gore guilty?

Did anyone catch the CBS drama "The Good Wife" last night? The show simply took the police department interview from the Portland massage therapist accusing Al Gore of sexual assualt (published by The National Enquirer earlier this year) and turned it almost verbatim into an episode - changing only the accused name to a fictional Democrat "saint" named Joe Kent. My wife and I were hooked, and watched the entire show, fully expecting the massage therapist to be found out to be a false accuser...

Did anyone catch the CBS drama "The Good Wife" last night? The show simply took the police department interview from the Portland massage therapist accusing Al Gore of sexual assault (published by The National Enquirer earlier this year) and turned it almost verbatim into an episode - changing only the accused from Gore to a fictional Democrat "saint" named Joe Kent. My wife and I were hooked, and watched the entire show, fully expecting the massage therapist to be found out to be a false accuser...

The show starts with the massage therapist showing up at the law firm that employs the “Good Wife” (played by Juliana Margulies) looking for a lawyer because she has been sexually assaulted by Joe Kent, a world-famous Democrat politician who is currently crusading for women’s rights in the Congo or some African country.

The partners of the law firm find themselves divided over whether they should represent the masseuse, with the female partner describing Joe Kent as a Democratic saint and the masseuse as a probable Republican dirty trickster. The partners interview the masseuse and she proceeds to describe the assault almost exactly as the Portland masseuse described the Al Gore assault – in some cases, word-for-word. My wife and I are both laughing at this point and we can hardly believe CBS is allowing this on network TV. We agree that this will probably just turn into a vehicle to exonerate Al Gore, but we have enjoyed watching this show before – it’s main character being the wife of a cheating politician who has agreed to stand by her man and be “The Good Wife” – so we watch on.

The lawyers send investigators out to check out the masseuse’s background, and sure enough, they find she is in debt, and fellow-masseuse implies that she has a reputation for “providing extra services” – we even notice “The American Spectator” shows up in a list of web-sites she has visited. The masseuse story is starting to look shaky – but then, one of the investigators finds a second masseuse who says Joe Kent assaulted her, and then a dirty lawyer for Joe Kent (aka Gore) shows up trying to pull a back-room deal to shut down the legal case. Then Joe Kent’s wife calls the lawyers, begging them to drop the case. She refuses to state that her husband is innocent – she just asks the liberal lawyers to consider to important work Joe Kent is doing. The masseuse also produces a bath robe in a plastic bag – she says Kent’s DNA is on it.

In the end, the masseuse gives up, obviously rattled by the hard questioning of the lawyers – saying she doesn’t want to be dragged through all this. The show leaves you with the conclusion that Kent (Gore) is guilty, but he gets off because the masseuse doesn’t want to press on with the case. Pretty amazing I just watched this on CBS. Of course the show never deviates from the premise that the Democrat is doing important work – but it does give up on the story line that all these Democrat saints are above committing crimes and assaulting women. We enjoyed the show.

A little bit of Clinton in there too with the “residue” on the towel.

I also enjoyed the fact that the CBS show was made possible by the National Enquirer...

Yep, caught it. Straight out of the news.

But, like Gore, the show needed a HAPPY ENDING.

I’ve watched this show from the beginning and characters like this have a way of coming back... It is a wonderfully written show. Husband and I both just love it.

I could not believe the female partner of the main firm actually declined the phone request by the accused’s wife to dump the plaintiff’s case.

Ya think the writers were subliminally attempting to ascribe actual character to a progressive?

One of the writers for “The Good Wife” is Karen Hall, a conservative Catholic.

I have been interestingly surprised with each episode. I watch it with my wife and maintain a sense of cautious anxiousness that a typical TV leftist meme will erupt. It never does and more often than not, it leans more right than one could reasonably expect.
