Nearly 17 billion toilet paper tubes are produced annually in the US alone, according to to Kimberly-Clark with most consumers throwing out used tubes.

Say that again?

I'm drawing a blank here. Just exactly what can you do with a used toilet paper tube? Why save them?

Elementary school teachers ask students to bring them in for use in class projects... they use them, and the ones found in paper towel rolls, for all sorts of things.

The Kindergarten teacher at our school used them for the classroom gerbils to chew on. They created their own bedding.

Sheesh - can you use your imagination?

I use them to start fires (heat with woodstoves).

Tie a long string on one and give it to a puppy or kitten.

Tape 10 or 12 together and make a cannon.

Store extension cords (coiled up).

Seed starter pots for gardening.

More ideas

They make good firestarters, - I keep a bucket of them in the laundry room and stuff them with dryer lint.

Well, you can use them to store cords and extension cords. And, well, I guess that's all. They make good kindling for the fireplace if you have enough of them. I figure a summer's worth would be good for starting the first winter fire.

Otherwise, they're completely biodegradable and introduce no toxins into the earth. So what's the beef?
