DULUTH, Minn., Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Minnesota and Wisconsin set records Tuesday for the lowest barometric pressure ever recorded in the two states, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service office in Duluth, Minn., said the all-time low for Minnesota was set at Aitkin, Minn., at 28.42 inches or 962.3 millibar. The previous record was 28.43 inches, or 962.6 millibar, set on Nov. 10, 1998, at Albert Lea, Minn.

In Wisconsin, a new low of 28.38 inches, or 961.06 millibar, was set at Superior. The previous mark was 28.45 inches, or 963.43 millibar, set April 3, 1982, in Green Bay.

Looks like it will be an interesting winter to say the least. We have a strong La Nina and a moderately cold PDO. Lots of storms coming through the Pacific Northwest.

Nation wide this just occurred.

Midwest Storm Breaks U.S. Pressure Record

The pressure within the powerful storm that left a trail of destruction across the Midwest on Tuesday not only broke records in individual states and cities, but also one for the United States.

Bigfork, Minn., recorded the storm's lowest pressure at 4:13 p.m. CDT Tuesday. The pressure bottomed out at 28.20 inches (955 millibars). That is equivalent to a typical pressure within a Category 3 hurricane.

That pressure is now the lowest recorded on land in the contiguous United States, outside of coastal states affected by nor'easters and hurricanes.

Supposed to be mild and dry for the South West US and Mild for the South East US. The past few weeks for Southern California however has been very wet. It seemed like we had no fall this year. One week it was summer and the next it was winter.

You get the exact opposite. Oh well. The El Nino last winter, at least helped to give parts of the US a hot summer. Might be the last one for awhile, if the average sunspots remain below 75-70. Without a switch to El Nino by mid to late winter, this winter will not want to leave quickly.

Natural gas—before it is processed—flared while drilling. We do our best!

I saw a barometric reading below the minimum that can be recored on an aircraft’s altimeter in Iceland about 20 years ago. IIRC it was actually below 28.00.

” new low of 28.38 inches, or 961.06 millibar, was set at Superior.”

The gales of November one week early. Lake Superior has to be ferocious right now. I bet waves are hitting 30 feet height, with winds at 50 mph and gusts to 75. This is one where even the lake trout will get seasick. There’s probably still a skeleton crew at Isle Royale National Park. Batten down the hatches, boys and girls.

I was thinking this was probably similar to what took the Edmund Fitzgerald.

This storm was pulling up the end of summer on its front side and bringing down the start of winter on its back side.

Pretty good coverage for this time of year. This snow map is about 1/2 day behind.
