Midwest Storm Breaks U.S. Pressure Record
The pressure within the powerful storm that left a trail of destruction across the Midwest on Tuesday not only broke records in individual states and cities, but also one for the United States.
Bigfork, Minn., recorded the storm's lowest pressure at 4:13 p.m. CDT Tuesday. The pressure bottomed out at 28.20 inches (955 millibars). That is equivalent to a typical pressure within a Category 3 hurricane.
That pressure is now the lowest recorded on land in the contiguous United States, outside of coastal states affected by nor'easters and hurricanes.
Sounds like a very windy winter.
I want my Global Warming!! (see what happens when a politician promises you something!)
I saw a barometric reading below the minimum that can be recored on an aircraft’s altimeter in Iceland about 20 years ago. IIRC it was actually below 28.00.
Just shoveled three inches of brand new global warming out of my driveway.
” new low of 28.38 inches, or 961.06 millibar, was set at Superior.”
The gales of November one week early. Lake Superior has to be ferocious right now. I bet waves are hitting 30 feet height, with winds at 50 mph and gusts to 75. This is one where even the lake trout will get seasick. There’s probably still a skeleton crew at Isle Royale National Park. Batten down the hatches, boys and girls.
