So said Joe Biden today on the second-floor bar at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel at a fundraiser for incumbent Democratic NY-1 Rep. Tim Bishop.
Every single great idea that has marked the 21st century, the 20th century and the 19th century has required government vision and government incentive, he said. In the middle of the Civil War you had a guy named Lincoln paying people $16,000 for every 40 miles of track they laid across the continental United States.
No private enterprise would have done that for another 35 years.
For innovation and business, people don't look towards government!!!!
It is frightening what Obama is doing right know, It is doubling frightening to think that Joe Biden is one heartbeat away as well.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

The best things government has done are the things that facilitated trade and expansion. The Lewis and Clark expedition is a good example of that and for much of their trip they were following fur traders (Entrepreneurs) who had gone before.
NASA should have been the same thing but we signed that idiotic outer space treaty and forever eliminated the possibility of real profit from space. Why blaze a trail if you’re going to prevent anyone from following?

Oh Wow! You mean to tell me that the greatest invention of all, sliced white bread, was because of government incentives? What will they think of next, Joe?

I'm confused, how much money did Thomas Edison get from the government to develop the phonograph or light bulb? What about Alexander Graham Bell and the telephone? Did the Wright Brothers have a government grant at Kitty Hawk?

No private enterprise would have done that for another 35 years. Obviously, there were no railroads in the South until after the War of Northern Aggression began.
