.... and your solution is to put Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer in charge.

Great strategy!

in a state that elected conservative Peter Fitzgerald

Seriously? Your citing Fitzgerald? This guy barely beat scandal plagued Mosely-Braun (by 2.9%) and retired before he could be thumped by BHO.

Anyone who would squander their vote on Kirk simply has no actual understanding of our 1 party combine system in Illinois,

Is he the nominee or not? Did he win the Illinois Republican primary or not? By not voting for Kirk you are acting no differently than moderates/RINO's in places like Delaware who won't support a nominee more conservative than they may like. It is no different at all. Your gripe is with Illinois Republican primary voters who disagreed with you and decided Kirk was the best option.

Voting for someone like Labno is just silly. He has zero chance to win and anyone with any sense knows it. The most he can do is play spoiler and help Giannoulias claim victory. Labno will end up getting 1% of the vote and be completely forgotten about. Meanwhile, if the election turns out to be within that 1% margin, conservatives like yourself may end up pulling just enough votes from Kirk to give the leftists another Senator from Illinois.

No, to make Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer responsible for their votes. Did you miss the last two years of the Bush administration? There was this terrible economic collapse, but everyone blamed the Republicans because Bush was in charge.

The Democrats will have the same number of votes either way. Your way, though, the Republicans take the blame for their stupid policies. And there’s no choice in the future.

So if you can’t, win you take out as many casualties as you can.

Sounds like suicide bomber politics.

I am in favor of getting possession of the ball, even if we don’t have the best team right now. In two, four or six years we work to replace the ones on our team that we don’t like.

I totally agree with you and post often about the disconnect between reality and fantasy.

Society is like a circle, yet many posters seem to think there are only 360 degrees(north) and 180 degrees(south), forgetting the other 358 degrees. Anyone with a basic understanding of logic has to know that this country cannot be governed in that manner.

Interesting point on Brady appointing someone better after Alexi gets indicted. I hadn't considered that. However who's going to indict him? Lisa Madigan? Holder's folks? Neither got around to indicting the placeholder crook, just Blago. So far the Chicago jury pool has protected Blago; try him downstate and see what happens!

The basic problem remains, as you well point out, IL politics is corrupt and broken, including the nominal solution party, the GOP. The only solution can be a takeover by the grassroots under some label, resulting in a functionally new party. Ideally said grassroots group would take over the GOP label - if it can't defeat the weaker the two corrupt labels how can it beat the stronger. It's a huge task with little progress to date, well suited to Tea Party type action. Until then little good will come out of the state. We'll know we're getting closer when IL GOP candidates start getting attacked like COD in DE. You nailed that state.

You also well describe über RINO behavior in the Senate and the risks associated with it. There are two solutions to that. One is to not elect them, either beating them in the primary - ideal but failed here - or letting the Rats win the seat. That transfers the problems and blame to the other side, where it belongs, at the cost of losing whatever marginal utility they provide. The second, untried but necessary option, is to select a strong conservative that tells RINOs to go pound sand when they act such and is willing to accept the risk they'll bolt. Like Pelosi treated the Blue Dogs. That requires a strong conservative majority within the GOP Caucus. We'll have it in the House. The Senate will be closer, but may not make it this cycle. It's also a shame we couldn't add McCain... and Grassley to the upgrade list this year. The Senate should be able to get there in 2012 if we keep fighting for better candidates, and maintain pressure on those we've already elected.

Why does “establishment Republican” usually mean “a moderate who disagrees with most of the party platform”? I think that the state and county republican chairmen should be neutral, before the primaries. If they endorse anyone, before primaries, they should endorse candidates who agree with most of the party platform. If not, the party should have different leaders.

I agree with you. Kirk has been my congressman for nine years, and I haven’t voted for him. I skip that section, of the ballot, since he’s as liberal as the Democrats he defeated. I’ll vote for Labno. I hope that he’ll get at least 5% of the vote. If that happens, Libertarians will have lower petition signature requirements, for the next four years. I hope that many Illinois republican congressmen, state senators, and state reps. will become more conservative, because they want to prevent a Libertarian from opposing them.

Although Labno isn’t a true conservative, he’s the most conservative candidate, in his race.

FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT!!

Demonstration Against Exclusion of Libertarian Candidates by WTTW

To All Liberty Lovers,

The Libertarians are being excluded from the WTTW “Chicago Tonight” candidate forums for Senator and Governor, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. We believe that WTTW, as public station, is in breach of its statutory mandate regarding “strict adherence to objectivity and balance in all programs or series of programs of a controversial nature”
http://www.cpb.org/aboutpb/act/text.html

Further, we believe that sponsor of the forums, is in violation of its 501(c)(3) non-profit status by funding a forum which “has the effect of favoring a candidate or group of candidates”
http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/article/0,,id=163395,00.html

We are organizing a demonstration for 5:30 Wednesday evening outside of WTTW studios, 5400 St. Louis Ave. We may be coordinating with the Green Party. A meager turnout would be an embarrassment.

Now is the time to stand up for liberty and let our voices be heard.

These 3rd and 4th party people on our side definitely hurt us sometimes.

But lets not forget that those same kind of people are the ones who supported Ralph Nader, and who siphoned enough votes from Al Gore for us to take Florida. So every once and a while it works in our favor.

This year, I don’t know who is trying to hurt Republicans more, the purists on our side or the Democrats who are putting up fake Tea Party candidates. Hopefully, neither one will not do us too much damage this year.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. As a new party, the Libertarians couldn’t run in the primary. That’s by Illinois law.

Alan Keyes was a last minute thing. He wasn’t running this year and Alan has a tendency to talk to himself and God and no one else. Mike Labno is a real Tea Party candidate and if he were running with the full support of the Tea Parties he would be trouncing the two assclowns that the major parties have dumped on Illinois. You are part of the problem. You are clearly not very smart, clearly haven’t read the polls showing Obama underwater in Illinois, showing Illinois supports Health Care Repeal, and does not support Carbon taxes. The problem is you don’t want to fight. You want to go back to the bad good old days where socialism was just a creeping nuisance slowly taking over the country. Kirk represents a cancer, he isn’t a “moderate” he is a social liberal and fiscal moderate. Him winning will hurt our cause more than help and it will empower an establishment that foisted him on us to begin with. Mike Labno is the only candidate that a REAL conservative who has principles should vote for.

I know there are a lot of faux conservatives. Didn’t realize how many till I suggested people not vote for a liberal Republican like Kirk and vote for a working man like Mike Labno. A month ago there was an opening to lift Mike up with our support but instead conservatives say on their hands except for a few honest men and women. I’m never been more ashamed of the Tea Party and conservatives. I’ve seen Prolife leaders purposely remain silent for the hope they might receive some scraps from the establishment table.

Go ahead vote for the man who will vote with Obama to put in the Supreme Court Justice who will take away gun rights, or strike down pro life laws, further attack property rights, and uphold the worst egregious actions of Obamacare.

Keep voting for the ‘R’ because the ‘R’ is what matters because we want to ‘win’. I ask win what? When have we ever really won by electing liberal Republicans like Kirk? What happens is they end up being the one or two votes that give the day to our enemies. They almost never are the one vote to save the day for our cause.

Yep until people learn how to read polls and stop hoping for easy wins. Fitzpatrick won there and we can win again. The numbers are there though sadly the reason this race has not become something more is because of lack of effort not possibly. Mike Labno has a much better profile than Christine O’Donnell but crickets. I’ve never seen conservatives gather around to protect such a worthless piece of crap as Kirk. If they didn’t believe Labno was a threat they wouldn’t be so quiet about him. Either way in the end as long as we are willing to compromise are most basic values for the sake of big money and establishment support then we will never get a constitutional government again.

No it means that we end up getting screwed by our own because Kirk will betray us. Do you really think taking the Senate will help us if Kirk is there pulling the strings selling his vote for power? The man is to the left of Olympia Snowe.

He is in single digits because of people like you and cowardly Christian doormats for Jesus. No a better chance for for us to have Kirk used as a club to beat us with. Everyone who is letting him get away with being called a “moderate” is conceding that it is the Tea Party that is extreme. I understand what you are saying and I used to think the same way but I’ve seen the results. We always lose in the end when we place our hopes in people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, like Mitt Romney, like Richard Nixon, like Mark Kirk. We always lose.

It just pisses me off when I’ve seen the past month how it has been the conservatives that have produced a firewall of silence around Mark Labno. I understand we have other races but if we really wanted to show the power of the people this is the race. I know he’s never dabbled in witchcraft but come on.

Anyway, I’ve seen this before. Thought things had changed this year but clearly not. Same old crap, same old lack of principle same old self defeatist bitter conservatives who wouldn’t get behind Saurberg but jump in line behind this liberal monster? Come on people open your eyes.
