President Obama is spending the next week crisscrossing the country in support of Democratic candidates before this year's midterm elections. While the president may do a great job of energizing the base, he may not be able to convert any Independents who have yet to decide for whom they will vote. Currently, two-thirds of Americans (67%) have a negative opinion of the job President Obama is doing while just over one-third (37%) have a positive opinion. This continues the president's downward trend and he is now at the lowest job approval rating of his presidency.
These are some of the results of The Harris Poll of 3,084 adults surveyed online between October 11 and 18, 2010 by Harris Interactive.
It's perhaps not surprising that nine in ten Republicans (90%) and Conservatives (89%) give the job the president is doing negative ratings. What may be surprising is that one-third of Democrats (34%) and Liberals (33%) also give him negative ratings, as do seven in ten Independents (70%) and six in ten Moderates (60%).
Americans who give the president the highest positive ratings are those with a post-graduate education (48%), a college education (47%), and those living in the West (42%). On the other end of the spectrum, almost three-quarters of those with a high school education or less (72%) and two thirds of Midwesterners (66%) and Southerners (66%) give the President negative marks on his overall job.
While the president is at a low point, there is a political body with ratings much lower than his. Just one in ten Americans (11%) give Congress positive ratings on the job they are doing while nine in ten (89%) give them negative marks. While Congress may be under Democratic control, even four in five Democrats (81%) give them negative ratings.
Part of this negativity may have to do with the way Americans believe the country as a whole is going. Just one-third of U.S. adults (34%) say the country is going in the right direction while two-thirds (66%) say it is going off on the wrong track. While not close to the low it was before the 2008 election (11% said things were going in the right direction), this is one of the lower points of this year.

The worst president in my lifetime. Thats even worse than Carter, and he stunk to high heaven.
Today’s Rasmussen Poll. Check out the last paragraph :)
With Election Day eight days away, Republican candidates hold a nine-point lead over Democrats on the Generic Congressional Ballot for the week ending Sunday, October 24, 2010. It’s the second week in a row the gap between the parties has been that wide.
Forty-nine percent (49%) of respondents say they would vote for their districtâs Republican congressional candidate, while 40% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent.
Even more worrisome for Democrats, however, is the finding that among the voters who are most closely following the midterm elections Republicans hold a 56% to 38% lead.
Gotta hand him something, though. It took Dubya seven years to get into this territory and Barry managed it in less than two.
Two things people really don’t abide are a traitor and an out and out liar.
Anywhere you go, deep down, no one wants to be within 1000 miles of a supposed leader who lies with a smile on his face and stabs you in the back, literally or figuratively, every chance he gets.
0bama and his representative, his Administrative appointees, his WH staff, are both.
I don’t think his Asian trip is going to be well received. People will smile and be polite because they’re paid to be. But he won’t be invited back.
On 11/3 he’ll still be president & he doesn’t have to give Americans a tongue-lashing. He’ll just keep on workin’ his agenda....regardless of who owns congress.
This can’t be true. It wasn’t on the news last night...
the more the maggot lies... err talks... the lower the numbers
Yes, it certainly is. And Dear Leader is going to take it very, very personally; just as he always takes everything, the world revolving as it does about him. He will punish those at fault, of that you may be certain.
And ever the Narcissist, Obama will not let his eyes linger in the mirror for an instant longer than is necessary to absolve himself of even the faintest whiff of blame. No, someone must be punished and it will ultimately be the ones who so miserably failed to heed his words, respect his talent, comprehend his vision, and follow his lead. That's right: the People are going to pay.
Epic Fail
You haven't seen anything yet. Wait until January. Darrel Issa is going to unleash investigations like you have never seen. The tax hikes will be taking affect. The real estate/mortgage crisis will continue and deepen. The economy will truly be in the tank. Hussein's approval will go even lower.
It should be obvious that he is in way over his head. He will be impeached or resign before his term is up.
The electorate is speaking.
If he has to spend the last week of the election campaigning in RI, he's in worse trouble than we think!
“(T)he People are going to pay.”
Yes. This fits Sor-0bamadinejad’s character to a T.
What about the Newsweak Poll that they have been touting on PMSNBC? That one had Ozero’s approval over 50%.
Notice how RCP counts the Newsweek poll in it’s average but they completely ignore this one?
This week, it will be admitted that the Senate is going GOP as well.
Yep, and we ain't seen nothin’ yet. If this election is a blood bath, Obama’s approval rating is going to sink like a stone. His numbers are going down quickly now as he runs around the country criticizing everybody he feels is his enemy in an effort to fire up his base. Those on the right that don't like him now will hate him after the election crushes his presidency and the lefties will be just as disgusted because their great majority went poof in 24 months. And they ain't gonna be happy. Dems will be looking for a way to get rid of him to clear a path of 2012.
Maybe this one wasn’t available then. They might update it.
