In this case, the surprise isnt the data but the source. Wikileaks new release from purloined files of the Department of Defense may help remind people that, contrary to popular opinion and media memes, the US did find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and in significant quantities. While the invasion of Iraq didnt find huge stockpiles of new WMDs, it did uncover stockpiles that the UN had demanded destroyed as a condition of the 1991 truce that Saddam Hussein abrogated for twelve years (via Instapundit):
An initial glance at the WikiLeaks war logs doesnt reveal evidence of some massive WMD program by the Saddam Hussein regime the Bush administrations most (in)famous rationale for invading Iraq. But chemical weapons, especially, did not vanish from the Iraqi battlefield. Remnants of Saddams toxic arsenal, largely destroyed after the Gulf War, remained. Jihadists, insurgents and foreign (possibly Iranian) agitators turned to these stockpiles during the Iraq conflict and may have brewed up their own deadly agents.

WMD’s??? In Iraq? No way...
Sorry.. the mantra has been established on this one. Didn’t you get the memo? “Bush lied, people died”...
I nearly lost my relationship with my father debating that load of crap.
MSM will not breathe a word of it.
I wonder if those docs are being put back into hiding as I type this?
No one has exposed or explained what was in the large convoy of trucks moved out of Iraq prior to our invasion.
Is this the “yellow cake” I’ve read about before?
I always thought the WMD’s had gone to Syria or some other country. Iran maybe?
They did.Just ask gen Georges Sada.
oooops....
Iraq’s WMD Secreted in Syria, Sada Says

I wonder if Snopes will quit lying about this now
Think he leaked that one by mistake?
Not a chance in hell that they will “man up” and tell the truth about this one!!!
Wikileaks documents show WMDs [Woman of Mass Deceptions, Pelosi] found aiding and abettiung in Iraq
“No one has exposed or explained what was in the large convoy of trucks moved out of Iraq prior to our invasion.”
Actually, if I recall correctly, the Russians did.
You know they must be in trouble and in CYA mode when the biggest headlines from AP are like this:
Leaked Iraq War Files Portray Weak, Divided Nation
Leaked Iraq war logs highlight risk that scheduled US military pullout could lead to chaos - AP, by Robert Burns, 2010 October 24
Excerpt: The reports, covering early 2004 to Jan. 1, 2010, help explain why Iraq's struggle to create a unified, independent state continues, despite a dramatic reduction in violence. They appear to support arguments by some experts that the U.S. should keep thousands of troops there beyond their scheduled departure in 2011, to buy more time for Iraq to become stable. ..... < snip > The enormous cache of secret war logs disclosed by the WikiLeaks website paints a picture of an Iraq burdened by persistent sectarian tension and meddling neighbors, suggesting that the country could drift into chaos once U.S. forces leave.
You know... I’ve been wondering where all the media interest was for this story? I’ve been looking for some “in-depth” analysis of this ‘massive’ leak.... haven’t seen a whole lot.
That tells me: Nothing in there fits the liberal media template.
Ping.
And the alleged flights to Syria.
