Despite debate about the success of the $787 billion federal stimulus, it clearly benefits students at Empire Beauty School.
Students at Empire, a for-profit system, qualified for $42.3 million in Pell grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grants are provided to low-income students. Empire offers degrees in cosmetology, barbering and cosmetology.
The idea behind Pell grants was sound social policy, Dr. Bishop said, but it enables for-profit schools to prosper despite student outcomes.

Full-time students can complete the program in one year and they receive a diploma and license if they pass a state test.Wow, they get the license if they pass the state test (just like anybody else does who passes the state test).

“Beauty School Drop-Out...no Graduation Day for YOU!”
“You’ve got the Dream, but not the Drive!”
“Turn in your teasing comb and go back to High School!”

For some reason my elementary school music teacher chose Grease for the 5th Grade play. Her photocopied score with copious amounts of wite-out was cause for much conjecture in the class and culminated in the memorable line:
“They couldn’t teach you anything/
You think you’re such a looker/
But no customer would go to you/
Unless she couldn’t see-ee”
Ahh, the innocence of youth....
Tuition is obscene these days.
