Frustration with GOP head despite expected gains (Michael Steele)
RCP ^ | October 23, 2010 | Philip Elliott

Posted on 10/23/2010 8:12:43 AM PDT by paudio

If Republicans make major gains on Nov. 2, Steele certainly would claim part of the credit as he considers whether to seek another term at chairman.

"Whether or not I run for a second term has nothing to do with winning on Nov. 2, it has absolutely nothing to do with that," Steele told The Associated Press in an interview Friday in Concord, N.H.

The RNC has raised more than $79 million this year and has spent all of it — and then some. The RNC ended September with about $3.4 million in cash on hand and $4.6 million in debt. The RNC also took out a $2.5 million loan in September.

Steele had started the job with a $23 million surplus. That money is long gone.

Perhaps that is because the gains are in spite of, not because of Steele.

How much have we sent to individual candidates because we can't trust the RNC to use it wisely?

No way will I risk my money going to some bottom feeder like Lindsey Graham!

The Gelded Old Party has one last chance to re-invent themselves. If they don’t begin the process of jettisoning the RINOs, it’s all over.

Exactly right... gains in spite of, not because of, Michael Steele - the leadership has been incompetent strategically - complete lack of effective communication - gaffes - publicly stating pro-choice views on abortion - pitiful ability to fundraise. Not another year for this guy. No way.

If we fight this out to the end the election may be contested for months. The liberal fraud machine is already running wide open.

If Steele had his way, we’d have Scozzafava and Castle in office, happily voting for whatever Obama wants.

Steele was presumably chosen in order to slice some of the black vote away from Obama. How’s that working for ya, RNC?

If Palin endorses him for a second term, I think he will survive especially after a massive GOP victory in 10 days.

The RNC has been the main funder of GOTV efforts in the final days of campaigns - the last “big push” to get the unmotivated GOP voters to actually show up and vote to give an extra advantage on top of the motivated GOP voters. With these pitiful fundraising numbers, the funding for that was in jeopardy. That can make the difference in any close races. We will make significant gains anyway...but for those races that we just barely lose, it’s possible they would have been won but for Steele’s causing the bottom to fall out on fundraising and funding for these efforts.

I am hoping and praying that after Nov2, Sarah will take over the RNC and wipe out every last one of the self-serving, pusillanimous Washington insiders who now run the dysfunctional joint. I like the receptionists and janitorial staff at 310 First Street SE. Other than, hit the road Jack and Jill.

I'm sure that's true, and it might have helped but for two things: obama was the candidate instead of the usual idiot white liberal. And, even if the 'rats had run a white guy, blacks weren't going to realign when the pubbie black guy turns out to be a clown.

Sreele isn’t a leader, not even close! He’s a political place holder. We need someone with a fire in their belly.

Election campaigns are expensive; there are actual complaints against Steele, this is not one of them imho. Thanks paudio.

There is no evidence Steele had any involvement in that DE race, and no evidence Steele had any involvement in nominating Scozzafava...he "stood behind" the nominee once she was selected by those with the authority to do so, but he pretty much has to...he was free to abandon her after she officially dropped out. I don't know why, with the abundance of material you have that is legitimate to criticize people like this with, that you seem to feel there is a need to inflate it with things not entirely accurate - although you may well believe it you are so upset with them. Just like with Snowe the other day - reems and reems of legitimate things to be upset with her about, yet you posted criticism that was based on something that was not accurate. Once again, let's allow our opinions and criticisms to be based on fact rather than emotion - don't get so angry you lose sight of that.

Steele said the GOP would NOT win back the house.
I have to say that his underwhelming performance is because he was nothing more than a token.
OK, so now the GOP has done its racial penance, let’s move on.
Who better than Dick Morris should fill that spot?
He has worked tirelessly to help get conservatives elected this cycle. Actions work for me.

It's a shame that Steele will get a share of the credit if a Republican landslide occurs this year, because the victory will be despite his “leadership” not because of it.

The most valuable contribution that Steele has made the past year and a half is to keep his mouth shut and stay out of the way.
