If Republicans take control of the House, there is "not a chance at this point" that they will try to impeach President Obama, a top Republican lawmaker said this week.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who would helm the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee if the GOP wins on Election Day, said that his party will not try to bring impeachment charges simply because it disagrees with the president.
"Not a chance at this point. I dont see it happening," Issa said when asked if there is a chance of impeachment on Bloomberg's "Political Capital," which airs over the weekend.
"Look, disagreeing with the president the president using his authority, maybe even misusing it thats not what impeachments for," he added. "Do we have disagreements? Yes. Do we want to see that the president strictly adheres to process? Yes."
Some Republicans, such as Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.) and former Rep. Tom Tancredo who is running for governor of Colorado as a third-party candidate have raised the specter of impeaching Obama, largely over his stance on immigration policy.
Tancredo originally proposed impeachment this year, and Bachmann said that should be left for Congress to decide.
Democrats had to answer similar questions before they took control of the House in 2006. Some believed they could bring impeachment charges against then-President George W. Bush over his prosecution of the war in Iraq and his policy on warrantless wiretaps. Party leaders eventually ruled out the move.
Issa has been in the spotlight recently, outlining his plan to oversee and investigate the Obama administration if Republicans win control of the House.

This is not the time to be talking about impeachment. I agree with Issa at this time.
Yep.
I can think of only one other way to increase Obama’s popularity besides impeachment proceedings. Issa is correct.
There are at least two of us.
I agree with Issa...impeachment is for high crimes and misdemeanors, remember? Even under that standard, the good guys couldn’t get Bubba removed from office.
Do we really want to go the same way the Dims went after Dubya?
Me too....impeachment is a waste of time and political capital...all efforts should be about turning back the Obama agenda.
It’d be stupid to try such a thing. Talk about shooting your load.
Nobody should idly speculate about impeachment.
i AGREE. Don’t impeach this punk, it’ll just rally his base—his cult, zombie-like base.
Let him flail for 2 years, then replace his sorry ass.
The idea of impeachment is beyond stupid, it’s lunatic. Just as Gore’s selfishness during 2000 damaged the process, impeaching Obama because we don’t like his policies is another example of people degrading the process which has made this country solid, which made us a good place for investment capital, because we oppose someone on policy. Not to mention, on a purely political point, how this only helped Clinton and the dems last time.
People value their vote. They don’t like it when one party tries to toss their vote aside and reset. Some folks may think putting Joe Biden in the White House and guaranteeing his re-election would help this country, but I sure don’t.
We can defeat socialism for a long time on the merits—we don’t have to shoot ourselves in the foot because we’ll get a laugh out of seeing this boob taken out of office. It’ll feel good for the moment, but it’ll buy the left endless sympathy votes, not to mention that it’s just wrong to kick over the game board because we don’t like how the other team won. Leave him where he is, and let Americans see how awful the left’s way is, and they will not let them have the reins of power for a long time.
Impeachment caused Clinton’s approval rating to go through the roof. It probably was a factor in the Democrats picking up seats in the House in 1998.
Impeachment? Over what?
If evidence of actual crimes arises later, impeach him. You can't impeach him now just for being a doofus though.
agreed
What’s the point of impeachment if you don’t have 67 senators to convict and remove from office? There’s no possibility of Republicans having anything more than a bare majority till after the 2012 elections, but then there’s just 17 days between the congress being sworn in on January 3, 2013 and the next presidential inauguration on on January 20, 2013
I totally agree!! There are too many other things that need attention.
Obama is doing a good job of digging himself into a hole. Let him keep digging!!
Impeachment of Obama is what we need. But it’s not politically expedient, apparently.
Do we the people have the patience for 2+ years more of destruction?
I am donating and volunteering to turn things around November 2nd but I must admit to being frustrated as hell with this misadministration and failure to call it out and hold it accountable. Let it ride?
Obama will give himself enough rope, given time. Impeachment probably will be considered at a later date.
OK, I’m cool with Republicans disavowing impeachment at this time. Any chance they might actually ask that commie son of a b***h for his birth certificate? I know, that kind of talk can wait until after the election, too.
