Fox hands [Juan] Williams $2 million contract

Fox News moved swiftly to turn the controversy over Juan Williams’s firing to its advantage, offering him an expanded role and a new three-year contract Thursday morning in a deal that amounts to nearly $2 million, Matea Gold reports.

Roger Ailes took a jab at NPR in the process.

"Juan has been a staunch defender of liberal viewpoints since his tenure began at Fox News in 1997,” he said in a statement. “He’s an honest man whose freedom of speech is protected by Fox News on a daily basis.”

In his new role, Williams will appear more frequently on the network and have a regular column on FoxNews.com.

Thank you Fox News Network!!! I do not agree with Juan Williams in most instances, but he is a decent, honest and caring fellow and a key member of the Fox News team!!! And.....you can see during his appearances, he is well liked and accepted by all the good folks at The Fox News channel. Fox News has done the right thing by Mr. Williams. Loyalty and support are important in everyday life and the management at Fox news is to be saluted for protecting its own. Mr. Williams, you have the support of the overwhelming numbers of the american people. As for NPR, they should be defunded tomorrow but Obama’s facist controller’s of the News at NPR will live another day!!! Another good reason, ladies and gentlemen to destroy the entire Democrat Party on Election Day, November 2, 2010!!! Obama, the Democrat Party and NPR have to go!!!

Glad to hear it. Juan Williams is a decent, honest, intelligent man. And if the left wants to dump a decent, honest, intelligent, BLACK man ... we’ll take him!

He’ll be an asset to Fox News.

Respectfully, especially to the venerable Mr. Ailes,

this narrative is far too trite for me to digest. He doesn’t -deserve- to be rewarded with a BETTER contract bsimply because he was victimized by the EXACT ideology he has devoted his career to spreading.

That ideology has virtually destroyed this country. No, I’m REFUSE to embrace this intellectual banality the way Fox is trying to play it. That’s about RATINGS for Fox and is not the arguement, the approach nor the train of reasoning that serves this country.

If he is going to RENOUNCE the DAMAGE he has inflicted throughout his career - GREAT. Otherwise, to elevate him is an injustice because most of - US- don’t get to reap REWARDS for damaging the country.

Come and join this debate at the “Juan Williams got what he deserves” thread

What a crock.

While Williams was discharged for scurrilous reasons, that is no reason for Fox to employ him.
That is an expensive finger in the eye.

Willimas has long been the dancing bear and resident fool on Fox broadcasts.

$670,0000 a year? The entertainment industry is out of line with the real world.

THIS fits RIGHT in with the O’Donnell/Coons debate.....NPR and it’s minions do NOT know what the FIRST AMENDMENT means....CONSERVATIVES and right minded people do! I hope the electorate is paying attention....quite the timing, NPR! ROFL!

Today I heard Rush say they should send Sheppy boy over to NPR.

I heard that too, and it cracked me up. Something about keeping the playing field level...that Fox News could take Juan Williams and send Shep over to NPR.

I can see that this was a good move on Fox's part, one that will earn them a lot of good PR. But I can only wish that having Juan on Fox more often means that we might get less of the likes of Alan Colmes (who's been showing up more and more lately), Bob Beckel, and Geraldo. Juan is at least more likeable than any of Fox's other liberals, most of whom are unwatchable.

Williams is almost always wrong on economics, but he is a gentleman’s gentleman, doesn’t lplay character assassination games, and exactly the guy you want for your neighbor.

He’s also somewhat conservative on the social issues.

1. Why conservatives are not attacking NPR as racist is beyond me. What’s good for the goose...

2. Pressure should be brought to bear by Juan’s friends from across the political spectrum for Mara Liasson to quit her job at NPR. If she refuses, Ailes should cut her loose.

3. This helps the GOP in the midterms - creates a 48-hr story that aligns with conservative values without boring people as with regular election coverage.

Maybe he could replace Shep at 7 p.m. If I have to listen to a lib, I’d rather it be Juan.

I sure the libtards will be calling Mr. Williams an “Uncle Juan” because of this. Liberal black men aren't supposed to escape the Dem plantation.

Thank you FOX for doing the right thing...

Glad it worked out for Mr. Williams...He didn't deserve to be fired

Get bent National Pinhead Radio... right after we defund health care, we need to defund NPR.

Are you sure you aren’t confusing him with the other guy who frequently appears on BOR? Not sure of his name, but, think his last name is Hill or something like that. I can’t stand that guy. Juan is tolerable.

I’m confused, yesterday I loathed the liberal SOB and now I’m supposed to be cheering because he got a contract on the station that I wished he got fired from?

This isn't about left and right it's about right and wrong.

I disagree with most everything Juan Williams says but he did not to deserve to get fired for what he said Monday evening.

I agree. I can actually listen to Juan. He is civil and honest in his beliefs — even if I want to roll my eyes and say, “Oh Juan. There you go again.”

I am not happy he was “rewarded” by Fox News and many here, but if in backroom discussions he:

I say this is a good lesson if Juan cares to pursue it. If he has the courage to recognize his free speech is being trampled.

Say anything out of line

get fired
get threatened by CAIR

If he is a more traditional liberal and does in fact stand on the side of America...then I welcome his viewpoints. But, I suspect if this is the case...Fox just maneuvered to split the progressive movement. And the question remains is Juan a willing pawn or is he daring to be the willing voice?
