Opinion JUAN WILLIAMS: I Was Fired for Telling the Truth
Fox News ^ | October 21, 2010 | By Juan Williams

Posted on 10/21/2010 1:45:41 PM PDT by combat_boots

Yesterday NPR fired me for telling the truth. The truth is that I worry when I am getting on an airplane and see people dressed in garb that identifies them first and foremost as Muslims.

This is not a bigoted statement. It is a statement of my feelings, my fears after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 by radical Muslims. In a debate with Bill O’Reilly I revealed my fears to set up the case for not making rash judgments about people of any faith. I pointed out that the Atlanta Olympic bomber -- as well as Timothy McVeigh and the people who protest against gay rights at military funerals -- are Christians but we journalists don’t identify them by their religion.

And I made it clear that all Americans have to be careful not to let fears lead to violation of anyone’s constitutional rights, be it to build a mosque, carry the Koran or drive a New York cab without fear having your throat slashed. Bill and I argued after I said he has to take care in the way he talks about the 9/11 attacks so as not to provoke bigotry.

This was an honest, sensitive debate hosted by O’Reilly. At the start of the debate Bill invited me, challenged me to tell him where he was wrong for stating the fact that “Muslims killed us there,” in the 9/11 attacks. He made that initial statement on the ABC program, "The View," which caused some of the co-hosts to walk off the set. They did not return until O’Reilly apologized for not being clear that he did not mean the country was attacked by all Muslims but by extremist radical Muslims.

Hey Juan, McVeigh was an agnostic Darwinist

What are you?

NPR is confirming what we all have suspected for years - that their management is completely consumed by a one-sided ideology.

Ahhh, here's the problem:

"She said there are people who wear Muslim garb to work at NPR and they are offended by my comments."

If Timothy McVeigh is a Christian then I am a Moonie.

He's telling the truth about this too - that IS why he was fired. Why are we supporting NPR with tax dollars taken from liberal and conservative citizens?

De-fund NPR. Why are we paying for radical elite liberals to get a free ride? Why?

most public radio stations are in the middle of their fall pledge drives.
I have donated on occasion to NPR. No way I will again. And I will tell anyone I meet the same.

Wow, that was a great article, learned a bunch of NPR behind the scenes stuff.

I can’t listen to much lefty junk, Juan is about the only liberal that I like— flip the TV when Beckle is on.

NPR fudged it with Juan, he wasn’t some screaming, spitting, rabid, liberal...they lost a classy one. (though I don’t agree with hardly a word Mr Williams says— he’s always respectful and even)

Instinct, a divine sense bestowed upon us by our Creator, is what keeps many of us aware of our surroundings. When something makes our hair bristle, we know we may be about to “Fight or Flee” to stay alive. This is the same feeling one would get being near gang members who insist on showing off their “colors” or tattoos or other blatant method of saying “Be Afraid”.

You know that feeling you have in your gut right now, it's not going away by itself.

I have always liked Juan, even though I have disagreed with him many times. Lately, on FNS, he has been too much of an apoplogist for the current administration. But he seems like a good, fair man, generally speaking. Perhaps there was a good reason for me to like him, after all....

I have a different take. Juan is someone who desperately, desperately wants to be a good Leftist, but is tormented by occasional lapses of intellectual honesty. That said, he always finds some rationale/justification for rejecting the facts and logic to once again find his way back home when he has strayed.

Awesome, but...

Why was he silent on this so long?

Silence is consent.

There are probably a lot of lefties who think the way he does. For obvious reasons, they don’t want to say it. You don’t see many people heading to live in Muslim countries.

I have mixed emotions about this. Part of me wants to say "so what, you libs have caused many people to lose their jobs for speaking the truth. You started all this politically correct BS now get in line."

On the other hand I disagree with all the PC restrictions on speech and support Mr. Williams' right to speak freely and truthfully and to hell with anyone's oversensitivity or tender emotions. But then again what would Mr. Williams' reaction have been had a white man make a similar comment about "being afraid when he sees a group of young black men getting on the subway?"

“When did you ever see a Muslim laugh?”

In the streets of Gaza on 9-11; grinning, whooping & hollering “Allahu Akbar”, jumping up and down, firing AK-47s in the air in celebratory abandon.

I know people in the workplace who laugh ONLY when it’s at someone’s expense. A cruel and sadistic source of mirth, IMO.

Also, Juan, you can be assured that if you continue to contribute commentary to Fox you will be tagged as an “Uncle Tom”. As I said, Welcome...

I believe that he has already been tagged as such after authoring a book on the lack of black self-responsibility. He was thoroughly Cosbied after that by the race whores.

Okay, I went over to DU and read part of their thread. Now I need a long, hot shower. Those people make me fear for my country.
