Yesterday NPR fired me for telling the truth. The truth is that I worry when I am getting on an airplane and see people dressed in garb that identifies them first and foremost as Muslims.
This is not a bigoted statement. It is a statement of my feelings, my fears after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 by radical Muslims. In a debate with Bill OReilly I revealed my fears to set up the case for not making rash judgments about people of any faith. I pointed out that the Atlanta Olympic bomber -- as well as Timothy McVeigh and the people who protest against gay rights at military funerals -- are Christians but we journalists dont identify them by their religion.
And I made it clear that all Americans have to be careful not to let fears lead to violation of anyones constitutional rights, be it to build a mosque, carry the Koran or drive a New York cab without fear having your throat slashed. Bill and I argued after I said he has to take care in the way he talks about the 9/11 attacks so as not to provoke bigotry.
This was an honest, sensitive debate hosted by OReilly. At the start of the debate Bill invited me, challenged me to tell him where he was wrong for stating the fact that Muslims killed us there, in the 9/11 attacks. He made that initial statement on the ABC program, "The View," which caused some of the co-hosts to walk off the set. They did not return until OReilly apologized for not being clear that he did not mean the country was attacked by all Muslims but by extremist radical Muslims.

‘Cuz not only is it fun to watch them eat their own. Our concern proves as conservatives we care about rights no matter who you are.
Well, now that I no longer work for NPR let me give you my opinion. This is an outrageous violation of journalistic standards and ethics by management that has no use for a diversity of opinion, ideas or a diversity of staff (I was the only black male on the air). This is evidence of one-party rule and one sided thinking at NPR that leads to enforced ideology, speech and writing. It leads to people, especially journalists, being sent to the gulag for raising the wrong questions and displaying independence of thought.
Well said, Mr. Williams.
I side with Juan on the issue and because he was not treated fairly.
However, he remains a lib and given his age, he will always be a lib.
In Juan’s own words: “...it is being buried as collateral damage in a war whose battles include political correctness and ideological orthodoxy.
I say an ideological battle because my comments on “The OReilly Factor” are being distorted by the self-righteous ideological, left-wing leadership at NPR...

Wait a second...did he just admit that NPR is partisan? I wonder what the temperature is in hell...
at least we know Juan Williams is liberal....now only if some of his other FNC co-horts would do the same....looking at you O’Reilly....Special Report panel....
Perhaps Juan will think twice now about the evils of the Progressive ideology.
Add Camille Paglia to thye list of honest libs.
I was mostly irritated with Juan on Fox, although he seemed to believe what he said. On that note, I always liked the way he monitored a show he filled in for. It was very fair and balanced.
Moderate muslim is like "a little bit pregnant".
Wow... excellent and eye-opening article by Juan Williams. Don't miss it!
Welcome Juan to the conservative side.
This could be the begining of the end of the PC nonsense, when liberals turn on their own.
For all practical purposes, Muslims have been our enemy for almost a 1000 years. What makes any one think that will change? We all will die under the sword of politcal correctness.
But, I thought it was an article of faith on the Left that Black people can’t be racists. How could Juan have been a racist?
CAIR called for Juan’s head and the dhimmis at NPR served it up quick. CAIR is no more than a terrorist front group with clear ties to HAMAS, Hizbollah, and Muslim Brotherhood. It’s riddled with convicted terrorists who are doing time, have been deported, or are unindicted co-conspirators for material support of terrorist activities.
Defund NPR and parent Corporation for Public Broadcasting now. They bilk taxpayers of over half a billion dollars each year to spew their wretched, leftist drek.

PC is not nonsense—it is a way to suppress opposing views and force the dismantling of free speech and diversity of opinion. Every tyrant of the 20th century used the same methods but labeled them differently. Thank God the old media monopoly is busted.
It is in my eyes, and I have no use for it anyways.
I happened to watch him on O’Reilly last night. I have ascended a new plateau in blaspheming the Left and their minions.
I hope that Schiller never wakes up from the nightmare this has created.
