NEW DELHI: US President Barack Obama will not visit Amritsar during his stay in India next month. While there was no official confirmation from the government, sources said the proposal to visit Amritsar had been dropped owing to reservations of US officials over the kind of scarf Obama would have to wear to visit the Golden Temple.
The decision was yet to be communicated to the government till late on Tuesday. However, sources said Obama, who will arrive in Mumbai on November 6, will directly come to Delhi now after a day's stay in the country's commercial capital. Earlier, he was to fly to Amritsar from Mumbai for a brief visit to the Golden Temple.
Sources said a team of US officials, which visited Amritsar last month, had expressed concern that Obama wearing the traditional headscarf might lead to "misinterpretation" that he is a Muslim. The US is wary of giving any such impression.

And his Administration was to be this big international, borderless, globalist, sensitive to foreigners kind of "go-local" thing of a gig....starting with Cairo and his "a-salaaam aleikum" opening comments to rousing cheers. Why all the shame NOW about Islam, Mr. President, when in India?

I think he should just wear a burlap sack over his head for the remainder of his term just to make sure nobody is offended.
Amritsar isn’t Muzlim. It is Sikh, which has nothing to do with Izlam. But they do wear turbans.

This is what is so odd. Sikhs allow any headgear as long as your head is covered.
you can wear a Jewish prayer cap or a scarf or even a hankerchief to cover your hair, they don’t care

Why doesn’t anyone seem to get this?
He’s not worried that entering a Sikh mosque would make people think he’s a muslim. He has gone to great lengths to show the muslim world that he is at the very least sympathetic to their sensibilities. Being considered one of them would not worry him.
Offending them by entering a Sikh temple; that he won’t do.

The rule is that you have to cover your head not that you have to wear Muslim headgear. what’s wrong with a fedora?
Yes, but a turban isn’t required only a head covering. A fedora or even a baseball cap will work.
The Sikhs I know, who are extremely nice, wear turbans. I guess there is some kind of trick to winding them properly.
He’s celebrated at least one Jewish holiday at the WH, so I don’t think that is the reason.
