Rove: Tea party 'not sophisticated' By: Andy Barr October 19, 2010 12:46 PM EDT
Karl Rove credits the tea party with bringing new energy to the right, but says that when you take a look at the grassroots movement it is not sophisticated.
I meet a lot of Tea Partiers as I go around the country, and they are amazing people, said the ex-advisor to former President George W. Bush in an interview with Der Spiegel.
But structurally, Rove said the tea party has little in common with the Reagan Revolution that has powered the conservative movement for decades.
It was also a well-organized, coherent, ideologically motivated and conservative revolution, Rove said of the Reagan Revolution. If you look underneath the surface of the Tea Party movement, on the other hand, you will find that it is not sophisticated.
It's not like these people have read the economist Friedrich August von Hayek, Rove added. Rather, these are people who are deeply concerned about what they see happening to their country, particularly when it comes to spending, deficits, debt and health care.

Rove, Steele, Cornyn, Burr, McCain, Hatch, Graham and the list goes on.
POS everyone of them!
It’s worse than Politico, it’s Rove trashing the tea party abroad, for crying out loud!
Oh Karl, there you go again!
I often enjoy Karl when he appears on the Fox shows and agree with him much of the time. But he has to knock off the elitist stance.
Of course Tea Party people are unsophisticated - but only with respect to the way they are organized, or NOT organized.
Isn’t that the charm of it all, the thrill, that like-minded people from all areas of the country and all walks of life come together to say ENOUGH!!! We have had enough of the deficit, enough of higher taxes, enough of the overbearing hand of this government looming over us every single day with promises of more to come? Obamacare alone is enough to send most people with common sense over the edge.
So yeah, Karl, in some ways we are unsophisticated, organizationally speaking, but that is not to say we are unsavvy, uneducated, unintelligent, inarticulate, etc. We are representative of all groups — professionals, blue collar workers, everyone is represented.
Go away, Karl, if you can’t support the Tea Party movement!
Karl’s brand of “sophistication” paved the way for the elections of 2006 and 2008.
Many of those same people that stumped for Reagan are Tea Party supporters.
Rove has a messiah complex to equal Obama's, but neither one of them can walk on water!
Most of the producers / tax payers / you know, the people that actually make this country work, are not sophisticated, Mr Rove.
“It’s not like these people have read the economist Friedrich August von Hayek”
I have. And I suspect plenty of others have too.
But in general, his point has some merit.
There’s really not a choherent central thread to the movement.
In my view, it should be all about limiting government. But there are a lot of social conservatives who have different views.
So far, an explicit theme has been avoided because no one has been able to really reconcile the two priorities.
Rove...you magnificent a$$hole!
These people also didn't preside over one of the biggest nose dives in Republican party history between 2004 and 2008. And they haven't spent eight years trying to force feed amnesty for illegal aliens to a nation that does not want it.
Rove continues to show himself to be an elitist snob who in truth has nothing but contempt for most of the consrevative Republican party base. The sooner he and his ilk disappear from the political landscape, the better.
lolwtf.
Freedom is not complicated. Contrary to a popular belief, one needn’t have a Harvard education to know the difference between liberty and slavery. In fact, it’s often the most educated that seem to confuse the two.
Well Karl, your brand of “sophistication” has gotten us three trillion dollars of additional debt in less than two years. I think we’ll pass.
%^&**(*^%%$%$ Rove!
honestly - I consider rove and his ilk on par with obama at this point.
The GOP of today has the role of corralling Conservative so as to enable One World elitist to accomplish their agenda at the expense of Our Precious Republic.
That’s the way I see it.
Its begun...they believe they have it in the bag...so now they will dismiss the Tea Party...
The poltical establishment has to go...
Screw that - Rove is a PPPOOOOFFFSSSSS
Its obvious from the policies he advocated that he is the one who never read that book.
Dear God I hate these RINOs!
Must be a pain walking around with a 2x4 up ur a$$.
