The search warrant says one suspect name Gustavo Contreras is a member of "La Familia" and he is a "multi-pound methamphetamine and multi-kilo narcotics trafficker in the Minneapolis area." The Mexican drug cartel is known for its extreme brutality along the U.S. border.
Federal agents say Contreras was stopped once with "$218,000" in his car "hidden in a fake compartment in his car." The warrant obtained by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS indicates investigators believe Amigos Auto Center and Sales on St. Paul's east side is connected to Contreras.
The warrant says there is evidence to suggest Amigos Auto Sales modified cars for the drug runners and illegally issued vehicle registration for drug smuggling cars to conceal the identity of the drug dealers. This 18-month investigation involves federal agents and special investigators from the Minneapolis Violent Offenders Task Force
