NY Governor's Debate: Next governor of New York: The “Rent Is Too Damn High” candidate

John Podhoretz watched tonight’s debate live and tweeted, “Jimmie McMillen about to go viral. Trust me.” And so he is, my friends, so he is.

To give you a sense of how seriously New Yorkers take politics these days, here’s a quote from one of the other candidates on the dais this evening:

Former madam Kristin Davis, the Anti-Prohibition Party candidate, called career politicians the “biggest whores” and declared she might be the only one on the stage “with the right experience to deal with them.”

In discussing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, she noted that “the key difference between the MTA and my former escort agency is that I operated one set of books and my former agency delivered on-time and reliable service.”

Her jobs plan called for legalizing pot.

Before you ask, yes, there’s an official “Rent Is Too Damn High” party website, and yes, of course it comes built-in with a soundtrack when you load the page. If you can’t get enough of Jimmy McMillan — or, as I’m now calling him, Gov. McMillan — NY1 had a solo interview with him just a few days ago. Exit question: Is the problem with a city that’s infamous for rent control really that rent is “too damn high”? Click the image to watch.

His facial hair is an homage to the late Colonel Harlen Sanders.

I got a kick out of the second clip. The guy worked up some audience participation. He asks the question “why”...and the audience responds, “The rent is too d@mn high.”

Does anyone know how many children Redd Foxx might have had?

I think we’ve found one of them!

We all had fun, but I have to say that the debate was a CIRCUS and did nothing to help New Yorkers understand the POLICIES that the main candidates stand for to solve New York’s fiscal nightmare and dysfunction in the legislature.

The press and debate organizers did New Yorkers a HUGE DISSERVICE but including these clowns in the debate.

Paladino and Cuomo hardly had 10 minutes to present their policies, plans and ideas. The two of them were 4 seats apart!

I WANT A ONE-ON-ONE 90 MINUTE DEBATE BETWEEN PALADINO AND CUOMO !!

The winner of the night — Andrew Cuomo ( for not having his policies and past record questioned at all ).

The cost of living in your state is legendary.
Even us in Podunk, Mo. know. We do have a clue. No way I could survive there on what I earn here.
: )

RE: No way I could survive there on what I earn here.

Well, let’s put it this way... people come to NY because they know they won’t be making measly MO wages.

However, the high cost of living in NYC is the one that’s killing businesses and causing a lot to move out...

As an example, one financial company in NY started a SOUTHERN BUSINESS CENTER in Tampa,Florida and encouraged a lot of their staff to move there ( helping with their relocation, etc.). That happened all throughout the early to mid 2000’s. Their plan was to cut the staff in NY by half and move the other half to Tampa.

The requirement for the Tampa staff was this -— Your salary gets frozen at the NYC rates for 5 years and then moves up by the Cost of Living level of Tampa, Florida.

When the 2009 financial crisis struck, close to 6% of the staff of NYC were laid off while most of the Tampa staff were retained.

By end of 2014, this financial firm is planning to move its lease OUT of Downtown NYC to across the Hudson in NJ, where rent is cheaper.

You might want to know the company’s name — it is the Depository Trust Clearing Corp. ( the main company in this country that clears and settles trades in equities and bonds ).

Rent too damn high huh? Who’s fault is that?

This clown, while entertaining does not comprehend basic economic principles, demand vs. supply

Rent is high in NYC because of rent control...guess the clowns in that debate didnt bother on this subject.

This is BEAUTIFUL! This clown appeals to base instincts of gimme somethin for nuthin. He has a natural base of African Americans. I bet he pulls a notable percentage of votes - right out of Cuomo’s hide.
