BOISE - After talks with the federal government collapsed, Gov. C.L. (Butch) Otter ordered Idaho wildlife managers today to relinquish their duty to arrest poachers or to even investigate when wolves are killed illegally.
Otter rejected the wolf management Idaho has conducted for years as the federal government's "designated agent" after a federal judge in Montana returned wolves to Endangered Species Act protections earlier this year.
This means Idaho Department of Fish and Game managers will no longer perform statewide monitoring for wolves, conduct investigations into illegal killings, provide law enforcement when wolves are poached or participate in a program that responds to livestock depredations.

Otter ought to have a meeting with all the County Sheriffs in his State and inform them that they have the authority to order the Feds out of their Counties.

Way to go, Butch!!! Not that my vote for Gov. Otter was ever in jeopardy, but he just won my support all over again. I love it...a big ol' Idaho "FU" to USFWS!

There’s one governor that will have no problem winning re-election.

It sounds like a States’ Rights issue to me. What are the feds doing in there protecting wolves > citizens?? Just taking the pulse of the Idahoans.

I did decide already, actually. Just interested in feedback from local Northwesterners.

The County Sheriffs should already know this if they have an ounce of brains.

Now you’ll be able to take heart shots instead of gut shooting them and letting them run off and die in the forest. Skin them out on the spot, salt it and roll it up for the tanner.

We can even use our guns “Made in Idaho” to shot them with!
To: waterhill
Yep. Northern Wisc and Mich. U.P. (where I am now on business). Wisc. has an “Endangered Species” license plate (with a wolf pic on it) for the bunny-huggers with too much money. If a car with those plates is parked for any length of time up here in this neck of the woods, well, they'll need to get a new paint job. And maybe new tires. If they're lucky.

This is very dangerous. If Otter doesn’t take care of wolves, the population of elk could grow unchecked. If elk population is unchecked, there will be too much elk dung. If there is too much elk dung, this elk dung will cause be man-made global warming. If there is man-made global warming sea levels will rise. If sea levels rise, the polar bears will drown and New York City will go underwater. The only way to prevent this scenario is to raise taxes and use the money to buy carbon credits from Al Gore.
