NY Post Endorses Andrew Cuomo for Governor; Candidates Debate Tonight
NBC New York ^ | 10/18/2010

Posted on 10/18/2010 6:48:41 AM PDT by WebFocus

he New York Post has endorsed Democrat Andrew Cuomo for governor, saying it believes he has the "vision to blaze a path to reform.''

The endorsement comes hours before a seven-way debate in the contentious race to replace Gov. David Paterson in Albany.

The newspaper on Monday said it based its endorsement for Cuomo "in the hope, if not necessarily the full expectation'' that Cuomo would become the strong leader that New York state needs.

But the Post said it isn't clear whether anyone currently running for the state's highest office "is fully up to the task.''

It called Cuomo's Republican opponent, Carl Paladino, a man "with a towering temper and a well-documented contempt for the truth.''

The Post said Cuomo was an effective attorney general who understood "the underlying issues of Albany's ingrained dysfunction and the urgent need to address them.''

Cuomo and Paladino have been busy readying themselves for tonight's televised debate as their surrogates continued to snipe away.

Cuomo's campaign released a new TV ad claiming that Paladino would take away rights and that victims of rape and incest would be denied abortions that are now legal.

Paladino has said he personally opposes abortion as a Catholic. He has said that he would advocate against abortion, but changing abortion laws is not a legislative priority. He said abortion isn't an issue in the campaign but is a way for Democrats to energize their base.

Abortion rights in New York are protected by a supermajority in the Democrat-led Assembly.

If these morons in the State decide to put another Cuomo in the Governor’s Mansion, they deserve everything they get. I guess they didn’t learn anything from their vote for Obama.

And what about the morons who nominated Paladino, rather than somebody they could trust to run a real campaign? Do you think they'll learn anything?

So you’re saying Paladino’s kid lied? Is that what you are saying?

As far as I know, Paladino's daughter made no public statement of any kind.

Carl Paladino did.

And it's up to Carl Paladino to substantiate his claims. You can't just accuse someone of doing something as horrible as harassing a child and then not back it up.

Right, so Paladino needs to drag his kid out and expose them to the perverts of the press just to “prove” one of the sharks took a picture through the window. I don’t think so. Besides, the people of Buffalo seem to think he’s a pretty decent guy, it’s just the idiots in NYC who seem to have a problem with him. Cuomo is more their type. BTW, any member of the Post even bother to look into the HUD scandals?

BTW, you just showed your lack of respect for the American people.

Well, now.... it's not "the American people" you're talking about. You're really only talking about the GOP voters who supported Paladino in the primary. They do not necessarily represent the entirety of "the American people."

They VOTED for Paladino and he won the primary, of course people like YOU think you know so much better then the poeple who voted for him.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. If the poll numbers are to believed, Mr. Paladino will be very lucky to get 30% of the vote. If the goal of a primary is to pick a winning candidate for your party, it would appear that the people who "VOTED for Paladino" failed miserably to do their duty.

Who did you want to win, that perpetual loser Lazio?

I suppose it's a mercy that Paladino won't be a "perpetual" loser, unless the NY GOP is stupid enough to give him a second chance to be squashed.

You've been slapped on other threads for being a Jerseyite and dissing Paladino. Go troll for Cuomo somewhere else because we see exactly who you are.

Dicker is in the bag for Cuomo.

Fred Dicker 69 year old reporter slipping

Generally despised by his colleagues in the Press for his healthy disregard for facts and careful omissions when promoting his agenda, Dicker's has taken up the cudgel for Democrat Andrew Cuomo in this year's race for Governor. When I had lunch with Dicker in Miami last year, I was surprised when he punched Andrew up on his speed dial of his cell phone and handed the phone over so Andrew could say hello.

RE: The problem is that Paladino claims to be no-nonsense - but then all he gives is nonsense.

The man makes A FEW curt statements, the media then decides to make a big deal out of it and then run with it everyday in order to ignore his POLICIES, and here you are running with the media.

I bet you’re going to continue running with what he said two weeks ago till election day and then TOTALLY IGNORE his PLANS for NY.

RE: Why is he comparing his personal life to Cuomo’s personal life? No one in New York state cares.

Then why do you continue harping on his one statement? Is he making this an issue everyday in his speeches ?

WHAT ABOUT HIS POLICIES ? COMPARE HIS POLICIES WITH CUOMO’s. COMPARE HIS RECORD VS. CUOMO’s, *THAT* IS WHAT SHOULD AND OUGHT TO MATTER BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT WILL AFFECT YOU AND ME, NOT A FEW STATEMENTS HE MAKES OFF THE CUFF.

RE: Why is he taking a strong stance on homosexuality, then backpedaling, then taking a strong stance again? What kind of resolve or character does that show?

1) He made a stance on Homosexuality to an Orthodox Jewish group. He made ONE SPEECH, and here you are, making a big deal out of it. WHY ?

2) MOST CONSERVATIVES, me included AGREE with his stance on homosexuality. NO GAY MARRIAGE, IT IS IMPROPER TO TAKE YOUR YOUNG CHILDREN TO A GAY PARADE WHERE IMPROPER SEXUAL BEHAVIOR IS BEING EXHIBITED IN THE OPEN.

3) Backpedal? What kind of backpedaling did he do ? Did Paladino say he is now for gay marriage?

4) It is only the lamestream media that’s making a BIG DEAL out of his ONE SPEECH and then again running with it everyday as if this were the most important thing in this campaign. You of course, are falling for it.

RE: He could have won this thing, but he has thrown it away - and he has thrown it away by not being what he claimed to be.

Let me ask you some questions :

1) Have you considered his fiscal plans for New York State and how he plans to confront business as usual in Albany ?

2) If so, tell me what’s wrong with his plans and tell me why Cuomo’s plans are better for the state.

3) Tell me, based on Cuomo’s background int he HUD and his close ties to the folks in Albany how he’s going to change the way business operates in our dysfunctional capital.

4) Are you going to vote for Cuomo ? If so, tell us why...

BTW, you just showed your lack of respect for the American people.

That's an interesting argument. Let's see if it's as logical as some of the arguments you've made.

They VOTED for Paladino and he won the primary

The American people voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 election and he won the presidency.

I think that was a terrible decision and that Barack Obama was a really bad choice as President.

Does that statement also show a "lack of respect for the American people"?

Or is your post just self-righteous bluster?

of course people like YOU think you know so much better then the poeple who voted for him

Neither I, nor the people who voted for him, suspected that Paladino would be as much of a disaster as he's turned out to be.

Who did you want to win, that perpetual loser Lazio?

As I've said on other threads, Lazio is a horrible candidate and he would have been guaranteed to lose to Cuomo.

Paladino was the best choice in the primary, given what we knew of him up to that point.

Since he won the primary, he has demonstrated that the GOP primary voters did not get the kind of candidate they thouight they voted for.

Personnally I thought Paladino was FOS about the NY Post being in Cuomo's camp which is why Dicker was baiting him so bad.

Now I know better. The Post has been in Cuomo's camp from day 1. And Cuomo is as liberal as his Daddy ever was.

Paladino is who they chose, the New York GOP and their “followers” just showed they are unworthy of ever holding office again. I seriously doubt if any of the people voting for Paladino will ever bother to vote for the weakkneed GOP in the future. The “just buck up and vote” crap they’ve been hearing for decades will not be answered any time in the near future.

You've been slapped on other threads for being a Jerseyite

That's funny, I didn't know that these were New York State caucus threads.

You are aware, I hope, that many people in New Jersey work and own property and businesses in New York state? And that they might have an interest in who is throwing away the best shot the GOP's had there in years?

and dissing Paladino

Why exactly is Paladino supposed to be above criticism?

Go troll for Cuomo somewhere else because we see exactly who you are.

Cuomo doesn't need anyone to troll for him.

Carl Paladino is working hard every day to make sure Cuomo is elected.

Unfortunately, you are outgunned by the liberals who live in the New York City area, which is 8 million strong or 40% of the state’s population. The city and suburbs OVERWHELMINGLY support Cuomo. NYC is a lost cause.

True, and you didn't even mention the voter fraud that goes on in certain parts of NYC...

He’s dissing the Tea Party candidates because he’s terrified they might gain momentum. The RINO wing of the GOP is actually the demorats dressed up in GOP clothes. God forbid this country should ever get back into the hands of the people, it might become what it was supposed to be and the royalty...uh...I mean politicans might be held accountable.

Not at all. She would have no idea whether the person taking photographs was an employee of the New York Post or was hired by the New York Post or not.

It wouldn't be a ten year old girl's job to identify the employers of the person harassing her.

It would be the job of the adult man who is accusing the New York Post of harassing her to prove his claims.

Besides, the people of Buffalo seem to think he’s a pretty decent guy, it’s just the idiots in NYC who seem to have a problem with him.

Then I'm sure he'll be a runaway winner in the Buffalo area. Where would you put his support in the Buffalo metro area? 75%?
